[edit]- In mid-1870s, Degas encountered a family crisis. His father died, and his brother René had got into enormous buissness debts.
- Degas sold a lot of his Art, and soon became dependent on his sales of his artwork.
- Degas joined a group of impressionists, including Monet, Pissarro, Sisley, Morisot, et Cezzane.
- However, the company soon dissolved, due to lack of buyers.
- Degas participated in six exhibitions during the next 22 years. He was now identified as an Impressionist, especially due to his continued work of Dances, and Horse Scenes.
- Although Degas was labeled an Impressionist, he denied the term, and preffered to be called a Realist.
- During this period, Degas developed his technique of using light strokes of paint or pastel, and en plein air. Degas usually painted from memory, or from sketches.

[edit]- Degas's financial situation improved after the sale of many works, and exhibitions.
- Degas started collecting different artists, such as Manet, Pissaro, Gaugin, and Van Gogh.
- Degas also developed a passion for photography. Degas photographed many of his friends, such as Renoir and Mallarme.
- Degas believed taht a painter has no life, and as a result, never married. His friends also isolated him, and he spent the last years of his life wandering in the streats of paris.
- Their are several unfinished sketches and paintings.
