IOTA is a public distributed ledger that stores transactions in a directed acyclic graph (DAG) structure, called a Tangle.[1][2] The Tangle removes the cost of the energy inefficient mining process required by many bitcoin based cryptocurrencies. Instead each transaction helps confirm previous transactions on the network, allowing microtransactions to be made without transaction fees.[3]

IOTA is a cryptocurrency designed specifically for the Internet of things (IoT),[4] IOTA enables secure sale and sharing of data streams.[5]
