The Colorado Association of Business Intermediaries (CABI) is the chartered Colorado Affiliate[1] of the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA[2]). Formed in 1999[3], the non-profit trade association is dedicated to "promoting education, professional standards and cooperative communication among Business Brokers and Intermediaries in the State of Colorado."[4]
CABI provides a public multi-list service where its broker members can advertise their confidential "Business For Sale" listings.[5] The association holds annual Winter and Spring meetings and hosts an annual educational conference in the Fall. In all, there are 90 Broker members and 30 Associate members.
Broker members must hold an active Colorado Real Estate Broker License[6]. Because of CABI's interest in raising the level of professionalism in the business brokerage industry, Broker members must take at least one IBBA educational course[7] each year; or attend one IBBA conference; or serve in a leadership position with CABI. Many CABI Brokers hold the Certified Business Intermediary[8] designation, which is conferred by the IBBA.
Associate members are partners with the Broker members in their transactions and represent the legal, accounting, banking, business coaching and consulting professions.
The highest award conferred by CABI is the Michael Marks Award, named after one of the founding charter members. The award recognizes "Outstanding Service to the Business Brokerage Profession."[9]
