Biography
[edit]Khandaker Mursheda Farhana is an academic and researcher. She is an Associate Professor, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology, Uttara, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Early life
[edit]Farhana is the third daughter among the five children of freedom fighter Khandaker Abul Malek of Manda Khandaker's family in Bijhari Union of Naria Upazila of Shariapur district of Dhaka division. After the independence of Bangladesh, their family life began from there when her father started working in the government service of Bangladesh Railway in Chittagong. Later, when his father's work was transferred to Rajshahi, she spent her primary education up to doctoral level education in Rajshahi.
Marriage and children
[edit]Farhana married to Advocate Dr Kazi Abdul Mannan, who was then a researcher in Business and Law Faculty at Southern Cross University, Australia. He was later founded the Center for Academic & Professional Career Development and Research (CAPCDR) in Bangladesh. [1] Their son Kazi Marzuk Farhan was born in 2018.
Education and Career
[edit]She passed the SSC exam from Rajshahi Sabitri Girls High School in 1993 and the HSC exam from Rajshahi College, Rajshahi, Bangladesh in 1995. Dr. Khandaker Mursheda Farhana graduated BSS (Hon’s) in Sociology; MSS in Sociology with thesis at the University of Rajshahi, Rajshahi Bangladesh. She obtained PhD in Sociology from the Institute of Bangladesh Studies (IBS), University of Rajshahi, Rajshahi Bangladesh on rural urban migration in 2008. She has worked as a Post-Doctoral research fellow at University of Padua, Italy under Erasmus Mundus Mobility with Asia (EMMA) Scholarship on Illegal Migration and Trafficking of Adivasi Women and Children in Bangladesh.
She is the author of many research books and book chapters. She is the author of numerous articles in high-impact factor international scientific journals with good citations.
Dr. Farhana has worked at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology as an Assistant professor in Sociology. Beside, she was a Social Specialist of the Dhaka Water Supply and Sanitation Project (DWSSP)’ under World Bank project. Her focal research interest are on human migration, trafficking, urbanization, rural social structure, women and gender related social issues. She has vast working experiences in the UK, Italy and Bangladesh, including intensive training received from the EU, UK and Asian region.
Presently, She is an Associate Professor of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology, Uttara, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
She is also the Executive Member of Researchers Consortium LLC, California, USA; Senior Member of International Economics Development Research Center (IEDRC), Hong Kong; Member of American Sociological Association (USA), American Economic Association (USA); Regular member of World Academy of Young Scientists (WAYS), Budapest, Hungary; Member of Sociological Association, Department of sociology, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh.
Religion and Philosophical views
[edit]Farhana belongs to a Muslim family and continues to actively display a normative orthodox Quranic theological creed. She encourages the public to engage in pray directly to Almighty Allah, whom Farhana publicly recognises as the supreme source of assistance and support, and as the master of Divine Decree.
Published works
[edit]Farhana's research began in 1998 as an undergraduate student, analyzing the socio-economic conditions of small traders at the campus of the University of Rajshahi. She has been researching internal and international migration and trafficking for a long time. She recently published an empirical study on women and child trafficking and prostitution in the context of Bangladesh. [2] Farhana also highlighted the responsibility of Bangladesh's economic vitality in the context of international migration and remittances in policymaking. [3]
Recognition
[edit]Farhana was awarded a postdoctoral research fellowship from the European Union Scholarship through Erasmus Mundus Mobility for Asia (EMMA) in 2010. Again in 2018, she received a competitive research project grant from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University to develop smoke-free cities. In addition, between 2016-2024, she received research grants from various research institutions of the Bangladesh government, such as three grants from Bangladesh Medical Research Council (BMRC), one grant from the Social Science Research Council (SSRC), and one from the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM).
