Dundrum Village Centre, is a shopping centre located in Dundrum, Dublin, Ireland. It is located just north of the larger Dundrum Town Centre.
History
[edit]Dundrum Village Centre opened in 1971 under the name Dundrum Shopping Centre. It was one of the first purpose built shopping centers in Ireland. It was renamed Dundrum Village Centre after the opening of the nearby Dundrum Town Centre.[2][3]
In 2008, planning permission was granted by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for the Village Centre to be demolished and replaced with 50,000sq metres of shopping, restaurants, a 96 room hotel, 40 residential units and a public library.[4][5] The plans were put on hold in 2015 after the 2011 flood of the Town Centre, lead to concerns about an increased flood risk to an expanded centre.[6]
In 2019, the co-owners of Dundrum Town Centre Hammerson, put forward new plans to develop the Village Centre further including retail stores, dining, over 800 apartments and a high rise tower. It is currently in the planning stages.[7]
Public Transport
[edit]The Centre is served by the Dundrum Stop of the Luas green line. It is also served by Dublin Bus routes 14, L25, 44, 44b, 44d and 74, and Go-Ahead Ireland route 161.
