User:Dr kiwano
Dr. Kiwano (or doctor_kiwano, drkiwano, etc.) is a username/alias used by Kris Coward since September of 2007.
During his time on dial-up BBSes in the early 1990s, Kris used the username Nobody (which enabled an amusing incident where his father, upon discovering the use of this alias, approached him with a concern that it might be indicative of low self-esteem; Kris responded curtly, "Nobody's perfect" and his father left the room with entirely different concerns about Kris' self-esteem).
Still during the BBS period, Kris played a practical joke on another user which, at one point, involved leavning a Kiwano melon with an anonymous note at the other user's front door. He and his accomplice in this practical joke then began using aliases involving the name Kiwano in various online games (e.g. "Lord Kiwano" in Legend of the Red Dragon).
After the transition to the internet, Kris decided that as a username, "Nobody" was too likely to already be in use on any particular site, and decided to use the name kiwano instead.
This posed a slight problem however in that Kiwano, being a registered trademark, was occasionally unavailable as a username. In these situations, Kris used the longer name "Lord Kiwano" that had been used in online games. After a short while though, the styling "Lord" struck Kris as being both ridiculous, and somewhat pretentious. To remedy this, he adopted the longer username "Saint Kiwano" instead which, owing to its being patently ridiculous, struck him as suitably unpretentious for continued use.
In September of 2007, Kris completed a Ph.D in mathematics, and began taking the username "Doctor Kiwano" where "kiwano" on its own was likely to be unsuitable. While he finds this name to also be somewhat pretentious, he also finds it less ridiculous (owing to the fact that he actually holds a doctorate). Additionally, he thinks it's pretty neat that "Doctor Kiwano" is a pretty close rhyme to "Doctor Zhivago". Kris still uses "Saint Kiwano" in settings where "kiwano" alone is inappropriate, and he'd rather present himself as ridiculous than pretentious.
