Biography
Wayan Suparta is a lecturer and researcher for more than 25 years. He was a former principal lecturer at the Department of Informatics of Universitas Pembangunan Jaya Tangerang (6 Feb 2019 - 5 Feb 2020), Lecturer at the Electrical Engineering Department of Sanata Dharma University, and Lecturer of Electronic Engineering at Legenda College for four years (Jul 2000 - Jun 2004). He was officially former an Associate Professor at the Space Science Centre (ANGKASA), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia for five years (4 April 2012 – 3 April 2017), a senior lecturer for four years (July 2008 – March 2012), and Post Doctoral Fellow (2007-2008) at the Institute of Space Science (ANGKASA) at the same university. From 4 April 2017 to 16 June 2017, he was a de facto full professor at ANGKASA, IPI, UKM. Unfortunately, due to high-level political intrigue in UKM with the reason of financial problems, he finally decided to resign on 16 June 2017. After June 16, 2017, he works with the development of the “ScienceTech and Education Consultant“, a nonprofit activity based on who comes first will get free service. At the same time, he was work as an Adjunct Professor at the Civil Engineering Department of the University of Technology Yogyakarta (UTY) from September 2017 to January 2018 and associate faculty member of Doctor of Computer Science, Bina Nusantara University (BINUS), Jakarta from 2015 until now. During doing his Ph.D., he was appointed as Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) from 2004 to 2007. He obtained his Ph.D. in March 2008 in the field of Electronics Communication and remote sensing applications (GPS Meteorology) from the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Systems Engineering, Faculty of Engineering (now is known as the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment), UKM. He was a central figure in the development of IconSpace and STACLIM conferences throughout his career in UKM. When continuing his career in Indonesia, he also developed a conference "CUSME" (2020 International Conference on Urban Sustainability, Environment, and Engineering), launched on 20-21 January 2020 in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia.
He started his career as a teacher of Physics, Electronics, and Computer at SMUK Cor Jesu (SMACO) Malang (1994-1997), Teacher of Physics and Electronics in SMUK Santo Aloysius Bandung (1997-2000), and at the same time, he was a part-time lecturer at many universities in Bandung by lecturing Subjects: Instrumentation Physics, Basic Electronics, and Web design. After completing his Master’s Degree in 2000 from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) in the field of semiconductor electronics (Physics), he then appointed as a Lecturer of Engineering Electronic (2000-2004) at the Legenda College Group, Malaysia. The college has collaborated with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in their curriculum program. He obtained his degree in Physics Instrumentation (1994) and Diploma (1991) from Universitas Sanata Dharma, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
His employment experiences included lecturing on the subject of physics and computers, instrumentation, and microelectronics. The most important subject to teach was in the field of Electronics and Computer Engineering, for example, Remote Sensing Technology, Satellite Communication, Embedded Systems, and Soft Computing. Besides more than 17 years of experience in lecturing, he also conducted research with more than 15 years of experience. His current research interest includes electrical and electronics, satellite remote sensing for space weather and climate studies, natural disasters, solar-terrestrial physics, modeling of satellite disturbances, near field communication (NFC), and artificial intelligence applications. His previous research focused on the Polar Sciences that investigated the tropospheric-ionospheric propagation and application of GPS sensing technique for solar-terrestrial studies through the vantage point on Earth, i.e. Polar (Antarctic-Arctic) and Equatorial regions. He also interests to monitor lightning activity, landslide deformation, and crop production using GPS. Based on that experience, he was the first Indonesian scientist to conduct research on "Space Meteorology" on the Pole continent (Antarctica and the Arctic). Started in 2003 and in 2010, he was found a new method to correlate the upper and lower levels of the atmosphere based on GPS sensing technique. This method was awarded a bronze medal by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2011. In 2011, he has also published a book with the title “Remote sensing of solar Influence on Antarctic terrestrial climate from a GPS Perspective” by Nova Science Publishers, New York, USA. The last book published in 2016 is “Modeling of Tropospheric Delays Using ANFIS” by Springer International. The latest book in Bahasa Malaysia entitled “RazakSAT-1: Sebuah Analisis Kehilangan Isyarat” will be published by UKM Publishers in 2017. However, the last book was published online by Springer Nature entitled "Space Science and Communication for Sustainability" for 2018. Two books are also published in 2020 dan 2021, which are "Urban Development and Lifestyle" and "Advances in Urban Lifestyle and Technology". Both books are published by Nova Science Publishers and Cambridge Scholar Publishing, respectively.

He also has won several awards such Silver Medal for the project:
- The Development of Precipitable Water Vapour Monitoring System for Weather Forecasting” at IIIDJohor 2015, 29 October 2015 at Johor Bahru, Malaysia;
- First best paper entitled "The Development of PWV Index for Air Pollution Concentration Detection in Banting, Malaysia", IconSpace2015, 10-12 August 2015

- Presentation in Conference (2006) with a title: “A new method for correlating solar activity and terrestrial climate using GPS sensing at Antarctica”

- The first winner in 2016 is the first best paper entitled “Preliminary Development of Greenhouse Gases System Data Logger Using Microcontroller Netduino“, and the first best poster entitled “UKM Meteorological Monitoring Systems for Weather Forecasting“ in the 2016 International Conference on Science and Technology Applications on Climate Change (STACLIM 2016), 11-12 August 2016, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia
- In 2016, he won the first best paper entitled “USING MULTIPLE LINEAR REGRESSION MODEL TO ESTIMATE THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY“ in the 2016 International Conference on Information Technology and Digital Applications (ICITDA 2016), 14-16 November 2016, Yogyakarta, Indonesia
- In the beginning of 2017, he was won two silver medals for the project entitled “Development of Malaysian eArly warNing of ConvectIve System (MANCIS) for Thunderstorm Prediction” and “Development of Autonomous Greenhouse Gases Monitoring System for Peatlands” respectively at the International, Invention, Innovation and Design 2017 (IIIDJohor 2015), 9 March 2017 at Johor Bahru, Malaysia
- The latest winner in this year is the first best paper entitled “Parametric Studies of ANFIS families capability for thunderstorm prediction”, 2017 International Conference on Space Science and Communication (IconSpace2017), 3 – 5 May 2017, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
His big ideas and the greatest struggle is how the people can change their traditional mindset to a scientific mindset to be vigilant in carrying out their activities with the use of early warning weather information as part of their daily menu. He is a person who always looks young, friendly, and looks simple but very firm, committed, and disciplined. He aspires to have an academic campus to continue his legacy in the field of education and research. This ideal concept of advancing education in Indonesia is through improving educational access and strives for a world-class education. Anybody interested in collaborating to realize the idea is welcome.
