I-Ming's Life

[edit]

I-Ming Chen, or better known by his online monikers of DrSlump or Roddd, is a Chinese-American US citizen. His name is often mispronounced due to English romanization. The correct way is E-min, which is how it sounds in Chinese (Mandarin), but he will answer to just about anything. Born in Tainan, Taiwan on February 17, 1978, his family moved around his native Tainan until his parents decided to make the move to the United States in 1983.

While he was young, his parents relocated the family all around southern California. He has resided in Los Angeles, Buena Park, Fountain Valley, Los Angeles, Encinitas, Vista, West Covina, Mission Viejo, and Rancho Mission Viejo.

In 1996, he graduated from San Dieguito High School (now San Dieguito Academy, a magnet school) and went to Los Angeles to study at UCLA. After a decade of going through university and community college off and on, he eventually graduated with a degree in Computer Science & Engineering in 2006.

Professionally, he has worked for Change Industry and Red 5 Studios. He has also volunteered/worked for SPJA for Anime Expo from 2003 to 2008. Currently, he works for Blizzard Entertainment as a data center engineer.

His Interests

[edit]

I-Ming's interests vary greatly from Japanese animation to popular science. Being a true engineer, he is always curious how things work and yet extremely lazy. They say that laziness often leads people to invent better, faster, or more efficient ways of doing something.

He also has an interest in music and has tried to teach himself to play an electronic keyboard.

As an atheist humanist, he approaches everything with skepticism yet believes one can find optimism in all.
