My background is in research in molecular cell biology.
Following a Biology degree in the University of York, I gained a doctorate followed by postdoctoral research in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Oxford. Since 2002 I have worked as an independent science-based artist and communicator to inspire people of all ages without a scientific background to learn about science, ask questions and get creative.
I have run outreach projects for a wide range of organisations including the Medical Research Council and science festivals to collaborate with scientists to find ways to make their work more engaging. I have also exhibited my artwork inspired by the beauty and wonder of medical research in India at the invitation of the British Council.
Currently I am a Visiting Academic in the Department of Pharmacology, in the University of Oxford. This work includes funding for me to research the history of the department. This ongoing research is allowing me to collate and build up a richer picture of many notable historical pharmacologists. I wanted to help improve the quality of existing pages on pharmacologists, and create new pages where notable pharmacologists are missing from Wikipedia such as James Andrew Gunn who initiated the British Pharmacological Society. There is a lack of specialists in this historical side of pharmacology who have the background to improve existing pages or create new pages. I am mindful to write objectively to share facts without bias which are backed up with citations to help improve Wikipedia in the field of the history of pharmacology. I am only able to edit where I am knowledgeable and I greatly welcome all checking of writing to ensure it is neutral and objective without bias.
