Poker Game Design
Game Setup: • You have 8 cards in hand. • 5 community cards (the board) will be placed face up. • You are required to use exactly 3 cards from your 8-card hand, and 2 cards from the 5 cards on the board to form the best poker hand possible.
Objective:
The goal is to form the best possible 5-card hand using 3 of your 8 cards and 2 of the 5 community cards.
Hand Evaluation:
The hand rankings follow traditional poker rules (from highest to lowest): 1. Royal Flush: 5 consecutive cards of the same suit (A, K, Q, J, 10). 2. Straight Flush: 5 consecutive cards of the same suit. 3. Four of a Kind: Four cards of the same rank. 4. Full House: Three of a kind and a pair. 5. Flush: 5 cards of the same suit. 6. Straight: 5 consecutive cards of any suit. 7. Three of a Kind: Three cards of the same rank. 8. Two Pair: Two pairs of cards. 9. One Pair: Two cards of the same rank. 10. High Card: The highest card wins if no other hand is made.
Game Flow: 1. Deal: The dealer shuffles a deck of cards and deals 8 cards to you. 2. Community Cards: The dealer will burn 1 card and places 3 community cards (the flop) face up on the board.
3. Bets are placed 4. The dealer burns another card and places 1 card on the board (the turn). 5. Bets are placed 6. The dealer burns another cars and places 1 final card on the board (the river). 7. Final bets are placed
8. Form a Hand: You form your best possible 5-card hand using the combination of 3 hand cards and 2 community cards. 9. Winner: Compare your hand with others, or check if it’s the best possible hand among the players.
Example Hand
Let’s walk through an example scenario:
Your 8 cards: • 2♠, 4♠, 6♠, 8♠, 10♠, J♠, 7♥, 9♦
Community Cards: • 5♠, 7♠, 3♠, K♦, Q♥
Step-by-step hand construction: 1. Choose 3 cards from your hand: You have to choose exactly 3 cards from your hand to use with the community cards. Let’s choose: • 6♠, 8♠, and J♠ (all spades) 2. Choose 2 cards from the community cards: The community cards are 5♠, 7♠, 3♠, K♦, and Q♥. You must pick 2 cards to complement your 3 hand cards. Let’s choose: • 5♠ and 7♠ (both spades) 3. Form the best possible hand: You now have the following cards: • 6♠, 8♠, J♠, 5♠, 7♠ This gives you a Straight Flush: 5♠, 6♠, 7♠, 8♠, J♠ (consecutive cards in the same suit).
Final Hand: • Straight Flush (5♠, 6♠, 7♠, 8♠, J♠).
This is a very strong hand, and you would likely win with it unless another player has a higher straight flush or a royal flush.
Notes: • Since you are required to use exactly 3 of your 8 cards, strategic choices matter a lot, especially in determining which of the 3 hand cards will work best with the community cards. • You need to think carefully about how your 8 hand cards interact with the 5 community cards to maximize your chances of forming a strong hand.
This structure allows for unique strategies and decision-making.
