Hi!

Here is one more monastery article coming your way. It is at User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 1. There is another artcile titled Shey. History section of this could probably be transferred to the Shey palace article. It may also be better to change the title of the main artcile on Shey Palace to Shey Monastery. Some copy editing would be required. If you can muster more photos it would be good.--Nvvchar (talk) 02:37, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for posting Shey Palace on DYK. The second paragraph of the architecture section appears to be a repetiton. The Buddha photos are also duplicates. Shall I make the needed changes? I also saw your edits on my artcile on Bijapur Fort and tags on facts. I have added more references and links now. --Nvvchar (talk) 21:41, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Nepal

[edit]

{{Infobox Nepal Zone}} has been converted, although it was only being used on two pages, so I just substituted it. {{Infobox Nepal district}} has been converted as well, but is still being transcluded on the ~75 district pages. It could potentially be substituted as well. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 03:38, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Sure enough; it needs attention. I'll see what I can do in the next few days, bearing in mind that the new job has really cut down my editing time. --Rosiestep (talk) 03:43, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the star. I want to expand Diskit Monastery too, but I don't have the time now. Will expand it after 23rd. Also Nvvchar's contributions in Thikse are notable. --Redtigerxyz Talk 12:10, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Actually there is too much image crowding IMO. Thinking of removing the lower set of images and thus moved the top floor image. --Redtigerxyz Talk 12:33, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Tried a combination (current version) but looks too crowded. --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:19, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Do we need keep all images, we have a link to commons right. --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:20, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
IMO, we have a consensus on the images, though 1 more img from assembly hall can be removed , middle one. though i will not insist.--Redtigerxyz Talk 13:37, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
1. they are not lama quarters 2. I was thinking of removing only 1 image, not all. --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:59, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
2. was just a clarification, I thought I misrepresented my thoughts. Sorry for the discomfort. --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:12, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
I thought you thought they were lama quarters as the image does not have an image description, the caption was added by me (I assumed that you had not visited the gompa). "You had previously removed those photos and then you object to me removing them again." I was reorganizing the images but since both of us were working on the same issue, they seemed to be in conflict. Like the instance, when I removed the images at bottom was previewing their combinations and permutations, you had already instated the images. The mistake I committed was that I did not clarify in the edit summary that I was re-adding them in an upper section and so I did then you removed the images yourself. --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:27, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for understanding me. I leave the Tikse images matter to you and Nvvchar. All the best for you and Nvvchar for expanding the other Ladakh monastery articles. Sorry to have troubled you. Confession: I am a little fussy. ;) --Redtigerxyz Talk 14:33, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

Damn the torpedoes - full speed ahead! --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:43, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Sure, we will have a look at those in the next couple of days. György Györffy was listed for the Herder Prize too (in 1988 IIRC) but does not appear on the list. I don't know really where one would find that out— Google hits are largely mirrors of Wikipedia, as far as I can tell.

Out of interest, why do you care so much for the Hungarian articles? I don't think you are Hungarian or have much direct relation to the country. Or is it more that you are interested in a subject field and encompass whatever the nationality is? Si Trew (talk) 16:03, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

We've had a look at both of these, prepping to translate, but time wounds all heels and we have not actually made the translation yet.
At the Gabor Preisich article, there are lists of works. The buildings designed are of the following form:
Year. Budapest XXXXX. some text. (Name name).
I am not sure how best to convert this. First, I am not sure if the year should come first, though it seems sensible really to do it that way. (But in the following section on books, the year comes last.) The XXXXX is a Roman numeral indicating the district of Budapest. We are not sure what the name afterwards means. It is a personal name. I dunno if it means the person who commissioned the work, or who carried out the work, or what. If you have any clue, given the hints I have given you, could you please let us know? We can of course just translate the names verbatim but am not sure of their significance.
I think you may have somehow confused last december with this december when archiving or something, as I only posted it less than an hour ago. Perhaps I am touchy, I am sorry, had a hard weekend in real life, I apologise. Si Trew (talk) 18:39, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
That leads me to another point, which is that this translation malarkey is not easy. Which is why it takes quite a while to translate what might seem like a straightforward article, after we do searches for terms, make sure we have the right people when we are wikifying, and so on. (And no doubt still get it wrong sometimes.) So, while I am glad you take an interest in these articles, may I suggest you feed us no more than one every two weeks. That way, we can get our own projects done on the battles of the 1848 revolution rather than spending all our time translating your own fancies. It is my own fault for saying it is nice to be fed on demand, but we do have our own projects too. Of course if there is anything particularly urgent that needs translating, we would be willing to do do so at least as a rough sense of the meaning we could post to your talk here.
Very best wishes Si Trew (talk) 12:02, 25 November 2009 (UTC)
The Németh article is quite long and laborious to translate. We can do it, but it will take a little time (likely to finish this weekend). In the meantime, we would prefer it if you held off editing it, beyond obvious typos etc. For example, your added info that he died was already present in the lead and the infobox, and yet there was much more info that needed to be placed into this section, we had only got about half way through it. You omitted, for example, that he died from (of?) a stroke. Well, it can be counterproductive to then add that information as if it were translated, since we had to translate it properly anyway.
Similarly, we can't see why you removed the {{Expand Hungarian}} and {{Under construction}} tags, since it was we think quite clear that there was more information that needed to be expanded. And the former template quite clearly says that having expanded the article (which I take to mean, as fully as one intends to) then a template should be placed on the talk page. You didn't do this, and you can't have your cake and eat it: if you want to expand the remaining parts of the article go ahead, but you did request us to do it, and we were surprised – to put it nicely – that you had removed these tags when we were just taking a couple of days' break to have some real life.
Best wishes as always Si Trew (talk) 16:55, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
We've finished the Life section and I have split into his literary and non-literary careers, of course this breaks the chronological order but on the other hand seems to me to keep the two subjects separate, as indeed he seemed to (he did not write on dentistry, for example). We just have to do the "Works" now, and probably will cut that quite a lot, since one critique of one work (Isymny) is almost a whole sheet of A4 which seems way too long for an overarching biog.
I've just edited the other one to put the awards in the Herder Prize. At Németh, the pic in the infobox was deleted from Commons as not meeting the licence criteria (see chat under my username at Commons) but we see you added it back in. Let it have its fate, whichever way it is. The others should be OK as original authors' work.
Part of the reason it takes so long is we have to check all kinds of literary links, many of which are not in HU:WP so have to check all kinds of other sources to make sure we have it right. Thanks, yes I think we have done a good job so far. User:Monkap is going to do the rest of the translation during the week and we'll put it in at the weekend, she only has Apples during the week and has no accents, so she might as well dictate it to me and we do the accents and linking and anglicising during that stage, which seems to work well for us.
You may want to check Attila József to which I have added a basic {{Infobox writer}} but if there is more info that can be put in that, it might be useful for you to do it. He also has a prize named after him, but Attila József prize (which Németh won) is a redlink. I think the English on that article is a bit out of kilter, too, but don't really want to tidy it up now. Just the Hungarian sticks through a bit into the English, it doesn't run very naturally to my eye.
Best wishes Si Trew (talk) 17:16, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
When archiving did you maybe forget today is 1 December so it got included in that sweep? Oh well, I don't mind if it was an honest mistake. Si Trew (talk) 18:41, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Well it is probably best to take these things to the appropriate talk page anyway, but you seem to prefer it to be on your user talk page (and reply on the respondent's). Yes probably very touchy, I had an inspection of my flat today, a month early, and frankly am fed up with them for that and probably taking it out a bit on you. Thanks for pointing that out cos I don't feel touchy myself, as long as I know you are in good faith then these small annoyances, from both sides, I hope we can AGF and make Wikipedia better. Si Trew (talk) 18:44, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Well they like to do an inspection every three months, which I have never heard of before in my life. Sheesh this place is always clean but I don't expect someone to barge in a month earlier than what they said they will. I pay my rent on time every month and expect a quiet life. I've been ill the last couple of days so Monkap has done all the cleaning, and feel a bit guilty about that. My table is so clean you could eat your dinner off it. Plus we have spent about 50 quid this weekend rewiring the bedroom (amongst my few talents I am a qualified electrical engineer) and I won't see any of that back I expect, let alone any thanks for my labour, but they will no doubt suggest that there was mud on the carpet cos he didn't take his boots off. Sorry to have a go at you, actually we really enjoy editing Wikipedia because we can use parts of our brains that don't often get used in real life, I know ideally the two should be kept separate but when one has to bring one's own knowledge to what is really quite difficult then I think naturally the two get mixed up sometimes.
Very best wishes, I am glad you didn't just walk away from bothering with it (I have had that before and really all we can do is translate the best we can, we are not experts in the subjects, just try to give others a good jumping off point to improve from) Si Trew (talk) 18:54, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Yeah I live in Cambridge, the missus lives in St Neots but it is fairly easy to get between em. Dry but very cold today. Si Trew (talk) 19:05, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Németh is FINISHED. YAY! That was a really hard one. Some other articles we have improved along the way a bit. Si Trew (talk) 15:30, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
That would be cool, to be on the DYK. The existing refs are probably good enough, it's just quite common on HU:WP not to use inline citations, so I will have to look it up in the Hungarian. What kind of fact or facts did you have in mind? I would suggest (deliberately not linking here):
  • That the celebrated Hungarian writer László Németh started his career as a dentist?
  • That the celebrated Hungarian writer László Németh was awarded the Soviet Union's Order of the Red Banner in 1961?
  • That the celebrated Hungarian writer László Németh married the daughter of a publican?
I presume the aim is to put something unusual, but of course he is unlikely to be known to a wide English-speaking audience. Si Trew (talk) 16:01, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit]

Thanks for the help. Personally, I like the hotel column as-is because it breaks up the attractions by the hotel they're found in. This accounts for many of the attractions, and provides a link to more information about the hotel in the event an article hasn't been written about the attraction.

Also, I chose to embolden the attraction names, as they were of chief importance in the table and I wanted to add weight. After doing so, it may be too much weight, and a better result might be to color the column background a light gray, for example.

However, now I see that the article has been recommended for deletion? I didn't submit 1700 words just to have it get deleted the next day. Any help?Pintong (talk) 19:50, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Mexican artists

[edit]

Thanks for starting the articles on Julio Ruelas and Leandro Izaguirre. Youre right that Ill probably not get around to working on them. I mostly do geography articles with the occasional detour into a culture or history article (just rewrote Reform War) However, my geo articles frequently refer to Mexican artists (especially muralists) and it is good to at least have a decent stub on them, like you did with those two guys. Besides, my access is principally to Spanish-language sources, and their writing style tends to be ... shall we say ... flowery (see Reform War BEFORE I rewrote it)... esp. when it comes to history, cultures and art. It can be tedious to wade through all the praise and extraneous information to find information acceptable to English Wikipedia.ha ha ha Thelmadatter (talk) 16:09, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

transwiki from pl wikipedia

[edit]

Can you explain me how this process works? Can it be done by anybody, or only admins? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:11, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Where exactly should I add my name down? I am in particular interested if an article can be "moved" from one wiki to another, for example if an editor creates an article in English on pl wikipedia, can it be properly moved (transwikified), with edit history and all? Regular translations are not transwikification, transwikification means preserving article's edit history (or am I wrong)? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:33, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
Regarding lists of missing articles, this may be useful. I fully agree there is a lot of to translate, I estimate at least 1/3 of pl wikipedia for example needs to be translated (my analysis). But do you know if an article can be transwikified in such a way that while it was created on Wiki A, it will show on Wiki B with a proper edit history, including edits made only on Wiki A? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 23:18, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Spain is underway, but taking a bit more human intervention that I had originally hoped. This is not a major problem, but it will take some time to complete. Basically, I am trying my best to merge information from both the ES and EN wikipedias, as well as, translating the Spanish when it can be done in an automated way. By the way, I know what you mean about the "travel guide", advertisements, and other random information: Alboraya. Thanks for the new additions to my to do list. Samode Palace

[edit]

There is nothing much to write about Bassi Fort Palace (I know about it for the first time from your message). I could not find much of interest on the internet either. A better subject would probably be Samode Palace, which is very well known as a heritage hotel under the flagship name "Samode Group of Hotels" comprising Samode Hotel, Samode Haveli and Samode Garden, and all with rich historical background. But all these subjects may be treated as blatant publicity for hotel industry. --Nvvchar (talk) 13:29, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

About your last post: there already are some articles floating about that could fit there (some volumes here and some scattered entries here, for instance), but I'll get around to addressing that and producing some badly needed articles on that with some of my future edits. Aloha. This template is not displaying correctly in the pages where it appears (empty parameters are showing up). Also, I'm not entirely sure if we should be using a graphic in the name entry. Expansions

[edit]

Indeed - glad to see our work bearing fruit. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:23, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Perhaps - I should be in the mood tonight. Would you be helping to expand them? --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 22:22, 8 December 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I decided to take it easy - I might do a couple of stubs in a bit, before bed, but I'm not sure. Tomorrow, most likely, will be a better day for 'em. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 03:58, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
And the fish are out, as apparently I cannot access Fishbase on this connection. (Not the first time something like that's happened, believe me.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:38, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Well, this connection's temperamental, too - yesterday the Smithsonian Institution websites were unavailable, and today it seems everything's fine. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:46, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, that's my problem as well. Ah, well - House of Representatives of the Philippines has some redlinks that want filling... --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:49, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Later, maybe - right now I have to get crackin' on some work. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:18, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Enjoy, though it's probably too spicy for such as I. Though that reminds me...ever try Nepalese food? There's a new Nepalese restaurant here in DC that gets good reviews; I've been meaning to try it sometime. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:03, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Bangladeshi? That's one we don't have in DC, I don't think. Funny, because we have three' Burmese restaurants in the area... --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:05, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
There's a lot of Indian restaurants here - in fact, I think they're about as ubiquitous as Chinese now. Indian and Thai, too. Others less so, though I know of at least one Malaysian restaurant and one Indonesian one. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:33, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Apart from the fact that y'all have much nicer old homes than we do, for the most part? Nothing springs immediately to mind... --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:56, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Ah, yes - I love it, too. In fact, we have a Tudor manor house in Richmond. This is a few minutes' drive from me... --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:20, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Indeed. There's another one, too - look up "Virginia House" (there's no article on it yet.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 22:03, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Oho - I see what you did there. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 22:28, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

I have applied my thoughts to the articile framework on Kathmandu to be expanded. Based on articles of some major capital cities such as Delhi and London, I have the following suggestions for the section and subsection headings. It will take some time to cover all the sections. What are your suggestions? Another issue is of making changes and additions. Do we make it in the existing article itself, progressively?--Nvvchar (talk) 13:09, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunatley, I have travelled very little in England. I have to be sure of places before embarking on editing and adding to such erudite articles. By the way, I have posted the first draft on Kathmandu. It will be further edited and subtantially enlarged before transfer to main space.--Nvvchar (talk) 13:53, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Here is the link for the Karthmandu first draft User:Nvvchar/Sandbox 3. As a civil engineer, I am keen enthuisast in Architecture, but presently concentrating on Indian articles.--Nvvchar (talk) 14:27, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
I am working on it, but a little slow even for ‎my comfort. As regards Tamraparni River, I will post some references towards the end of the day.--Nvvchar (talk) 02:08, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
I have addded the references and also some text on the discussion page of the article Tamraparni River. I have also added some text to the Kathmandu article. I will add more later in the night. --Nvvchar (talk) 10:34, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
Time line may be too much for expansion under the History section of Kathmandu. It will probably be better suited for Nepal article. As regards template design my knowldege is very limited. I don't know the procedure to put the text below the img in a template. You rae the expert.--Nvvchar (talk) 16:38, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I will act on it tomarrow. I am quite tired. By the way can you pl help with the tag on article on Jag Mandir?--Nvvchar (talk) 16:56, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
I have merged the time line inputs provided by you in the history section. But references need to be fitted. I will add more text on Art section today. I have posted a similar message on John Hills page.--Nvvchar (talk) 02:42, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
I have added text related to Art section, Kumari Ghar, Changunaraya, langauge, and history. Hanuman Dhoka is the same as Durbar sqaure hence it could be deleted. Similarly, Shiva Parvati temple is also not important and could be removed. It has become a very large article. Some pruning of text and also cluterred old images may be in order. I leave it to your judgement.--Nvvchar (talk) 15:33, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
Yes. You are right. It lloks alright now. I will also add some references to the history section. How about changing the image infobox to something much brighter? The one in the gallery may be better. Before posting it on DYK we have to check the expansion. Considering this aspcet it may be better not to prune too much of text. You have yet to look to my request for Jag Mandir.Thanks--Nvvchar (talk) 16:41, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
I have been working on this article for the whole day and still a longway to go. I find User:Eukesh from Nepal has added some text. But we need references. But Ancient history has become too long. I have left a message on his talk page for fixing references. I have reduced the text of Modern History by removing most of PMs names. I have added text on Urban infrastucture, Christianity (may be you could get a picture from your friends in KTM), public health and small bit on tourism and just now on the acronym. But I have a few suggestions. One - the Notable Kathmandians section should be deleted or a separte article titled List of Notable Kathmandians could be created by user Umesh. None of the articles on World Capitals or Capitals of Indian states have this section. It is totally subjective and in no time hundreds of names will be added (in fact I can add a tleast two dozen names of my oold acquaintances during my service days who are very famous and notable). The list of politicians will be unending. Two - The section on History could be substantially reduced, otherwise it could invite a comment for shifting the entire text to another article titled History of Kathmandu. Some Imgs could be re-rarranged. I have done some. You are the lead, take a view.--Nvvchar (talk) 12:31, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
Ref 12[1] and Ref 15 [2]. I could open both on my under Notes. Pl check.--Nvvchar (talk) 12:58, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for incorporating some of my suggestions. Map below the Infobox is also inside the infobox. It could be deleted or fixed to the left to give a bettwer setting for the section. I have finished for today. Too tired. --Nvvchar (talk) 16:31, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
I have removed most red links, added more text on National government at Kathmandu and also fixed references to facts. If user from Nepal gives some references for his inputs, the tag could probably be removed. John Hill has added his part with refernces. It has turned out to be the longest article of any city in thw world. I am off for a few hours.--Nvvchar (talk) 11:00, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Here is a friend's sincere wish to you for "Merry Christamas and Happy New Year 2010". Hope we will be able to push this article through to GA status in the New Year 2010.--Nvvchar (talk) 02:42, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
There is now a tag at the top of the history section from our friend for discussion. I will try to write a shorter abridged version next week, after which we can probably shift a major portion of the history section to a seperate artcile History of Kathmandu article. What do you feel about it?--Nvvchar (talk) 17:34, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Hawa Mahal needs more text

Hello! Your submission of Hawa Mahal at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Binksternet (talk) 16:15, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

The reviewer has cut out the road conncetivity informtion from the article by about 350 ch and that has resulted in reduction of the length of the article toless tha 5x expansion. I have read your reply on the DYK page. I will try to find more info to add. Cheers.--Nvvchar (talk) 00:08, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Well, although I never was and will hopefully never become a museum fan, for some reason I am enjoying finding all these details all over Greece. I just found that this Pyrsogianni museum has very interesting material. Check the top link in English! A wandering tribe of stone masons going all over Greece and even further out! • Please don't take Binksternet seriously - they speak for themselves only
  • Jacques Legrand (Mongolist) is on the edge of rejection and your input could possibly save it (if it is worth saving)
  • Luiz Francisco Rebello can be saved easily, and your calm comment would help
  • Dzongsar Monastery - we might get stuck there and you better say clearly whether ALT1 is Ok or you insist on your hook - I have no serious objections there. Cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 02:21, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Moldovan communes

[edit]

My dear doctor:

  • 1. Apologies for not replying sooner on the Romanian poetry issue. It's not something I have that many resources on hand, but I will be helpful (in a non-committal sort of way).
  • 2. The good news about those communes is that there are only 5 districts left (plus two regions): then all done. The even better news is that villages are done as redirects, so we'll have 900 and not 1600 stubs.
  • 3. I fully agree expansion and decorations are needed. All in due time. Again, good news: the List of localities in Moldova has all we need; all that remains to be done is copying and pasting to the district pages. Just bear with me a little longer. - Biruitorul Talk 06:27, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi Dr. Blofeld, I have worked on creating List of localities in Moldova, List of cities in Moldova and Administrative divisions of Moldova. I will also be creating List of communes in Moldova (an alphabetic, not by district, list in one section, and list by population in another section), and ultimately Alphabetic list of localities in Moldova (which would contain also villages and ideally all alternative or dated names). Meanwhile, Biruitorul has been creating pages for individual communes. Interestingly, me and him have worked out from 2 different sources, hence once the job would be complete, if there would be no discordances, it would be a reliable list (less likely that we both have made exactly the same mistake). I only created a couple templates so far, but this is because I want first to have the correct names of all articles. In Moldova there is a large number of localities with the same name (and often with the same name as in Romania). A typical example: Frumusica. It is more logical to first solve all redirects, and then start linking them in more articles. We have done this for cities long ago, but not yet for communes. See also Wikipedia:WikiProject Moldova/Conventions for details. Obviously, I have the information about population of each locality. Also, I have specific info about several dozen communes. Also, I have more info about each district, and the article of each district would contain a correct list of localities in such a way that no redirects would exist. See for example Drochia district. I would be adding in this information. If you have more questions, please, let me know as well by dropping a message on my talk page. I would be very happy to clarify everything. Thank you very much for your interest in this topic and I hope to see you around. Dc76\talk 13:55, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

I am in no rush in promoting Kapoor's article. This time, I want to take things slowly.
Blofeld, I needed to ask you something else. As you know that the decision to become an actress was disapproved by Kapoor's father and she was single-handedly raised by her mother. In this interview, she talks a bit about her relationship betwen her father and her. Do you think that this should be added to Kapoor's "Early life and family" section?? -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 19:33, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Simenga

[edit]

Remember this one? The one I couldn't find anything about; anything at all? Well, no wonder... I have recently laid my hands on a very decent 2007 atlas of Irkutsk Oblast, and at those coordinates I found a place called "Siminga" (yeah, a different spelling). Turns out, it's a place where a winter hut (OK, maybe a few huts) stand. It's definitely a temporary settlement, and, as such, it is not considered to be an "inhabited locality" (as per the term's legal definition). Even considering all inhabited localities to be inherently notable (a view to which I, by the way, fully subscribe), this one does not pass the muster—it's notability would be on par with a random hunters' encampment in a random forest. Why Hutchinson folks felt it necessary to include it is beyond me :)

That said, I have no clue what to do with this article other than AfD'ing it. Would you perhaps agree to {{db-author}} it yourself? It'd most certainly save everyone's time. If not, I'll just replace it with a one-liner (something like "Siminga is a winter settlement in Irkutsk Oblast...") and let the deletionists eventually deal with it :) Sorry for the bad news! Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 20:05, December 10, 2009 (UTC)

I'm quite certain. The place (using either spelling) is not mentioned in any legal document going back to the 1990s (not once!), a number of historical reference works on the administrative-territorial structure of Irkutsk Oblast never mention it, and of all the atlases I checked this one is the first one to show anything at all (and that "anything" is a seasonal winter settlement; quite possibly abandoned). I admit I can't with 100% certainty state that it was never populated full-time, but I am quite certain it was never a major town (not even a decent-size village)—those are all accounted for pretty well; even those dating back a few centuries. All in all, this stub is of no value. Thanks for speedying it!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 20:34, December 10, 2009 (UTC)

Thankyou!! That's my Christmas present from the Nordster. Thanks mate! Aw if you are going to consider drawing a historical map of Tibet you'd likely spend several years arguing with people where the borders are. Not even I the Tibetologist know exactly what the frontiers were although I have a rough idea of the territory it included in Qinghai and Sichuan today. Cheers and Merry Christmas!! [edit]

Oh Doctor, Dear Doctor, I'm damaged! There's a pain where there once was a brain! Thanks for pointing out my note about merging Kangding with the article on Kangding County. I can't remember if or what I was thinking when I wrote the note. So, I have left a new note recanting my earlier position (see the Talk page of the article and on my Talk page as well). I promise to recite innumerable mantras and try to do some more work on the articles as penance and ward off the evil karma rapidly accumulating around me for my thoughtless actions and precipitous comments lest I end up a hungry ghost or perhaps something even worse!!!!! RE: Ugandan Districts

[edit]

Hello, I read in the Ugandan press last week, that the Ugandan government has placed a moratorium on the creation of new districts until after the 2011 presidential and parliamentary elections in March or April. That gives us about 15 months to catch up with the districts that they have created so far (about 101 or so). As of December 2009, the following districts do not have map templates:

  1. Isingiro District, formerly part of Mbarara District
  2. Ibanda District, formerly part of Mbarara District
  3. Kiruhura District, formerly part of Mbarara District
  4. Lyantonde District, formerly part of Rakai District
  5. Mityana District, formerly part of Mubende District
  6. Nakaseke District, formerly part of Luweero District
  7. Bulisa District, formerly part of Masindi District
  8. Amuru District, formerly part of Gulu District
  9. Maracha-Terego District, formerly part of Arua District
  10. Koboko District, formerly part of Arua District
  11. Lamwo District, formerly part of Kitgum District
  12. Kaabong District, formerly part of Kotido District
  13. Abim District, formerly part of Kotido District
  14. Amolatar District, formerly part of Lira District
  15. Dokolo District, formerly part of Lira District
  16. Oyam District, formerly part of Apac District
  17. Amuria District, formerly part of Katakwi District
  18. Kaberamaido District, formerly part of Soroti District
  19. Bukedea District, formerly part of Kumi District
  20. Bukwa District, formerly part of Kapchorwa District
  21. Budaka District, formerly part of Pallisa District
  22. Butaleja District, formerly part of Tororo District
  23. Manafwa District, formerly part of Mbale District
  24. Bududa District, formerly part of Manafwa District
  25. Kaliro District, formerly part of Kamuli District
  26. Namutumba District, formerly part of Kaliro District
  27. Buikwe District, formerly part of Mukono District
  28. Buvuma District, formerly part of Mukono District and known as Buvuma Island

Let me look at you templates on Luweero District, I will have a comment in another 24 hours. Thank you.Fsmatovu (talk) 20:39, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Map for Cardiff

[edit]

You can get the image from [3]. There is an export function at the top. MRSC (talk) 13:29, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

I would do it myself if I knew which area to use (don't know Cardiff at all!). However, you can do it quite easily:
  1. Navigate to Cardiff in http://www.openstreetmap.org/
  2. Click "Export"
  3. Click "Manually select a different area"
  4. Highlight the area you want
  5. Make a note of the four co-ordinate figures (you need these for the template)
  6. Select "SVG"
  7. Click "Export"
  8. Upload resulting file to File:Open street map cardiff.svg
  9. Add the border coordinates you noted down to Template:Location map United Kingdom Cardiff

I'll come back to it. Google's street view of the street is not so good, and their website does not provide a good reference. Might be a bit tricky. Postcode does not (always) get near enough. --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:33, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for uploading File:Maria_Matos.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Chris G Bot (talk) 00:22, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Ugandan District templates

[edit]

Dr. Blofeld, At first, I did not understand what was required of me. However, after tinkering with the templates for a while, I appreciate what you have done. I think the new presentation will help summarize content at district level. I will continue to fill in the blanks on the existing districts. I will need help to create maps for those districts that do not have maps. Thanks.Fsmatovu (talk) 01:52, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi Dr.Blofeld, I'm through with the stickiest part, i.e. History, Ethnography and Folklore - Folk Art. You can double-check if you like but I did my best. Here are the unfortunate ones: User:Hoverfish/Sandbox#Articles that were proposed for deletion or deleted by author. Thanks. Hoverfish Talk 14:32, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. And sorry about the Hippocratic Museum: I gave the wrong reason by mistake. I had found info, but it wasn't what the intro said it was. I just changed the text to reflect the Greek official site. It's a small museum about the Foundation's history. Hoverfish Talk 19:57, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

On second thought, maybe we should move it to the Hippocratic Foundation itself. It doesn't have an article. Hoverfish Talk 20:10, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

I have nominated Covent Garden Hotel, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Covent Garden Hotel. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Grim23 18:18, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for inviting. I think we have enough resources and citable information to make this a featured article. All we need to do is rearrange the information and put them up properly. Lastly, I would like to thank you for doing this tremendous job to enhance the quality of my home city article. Regards--Eukesh (talk) 18:50, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

Don't get me wrong I am assuming good faith, its just with his past I am kind of concerned. Pleas tell me your views on this. Cheers Kyle1278 21:03, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

Successful models work in Paris, New York, London, and Milan - no matter where they're from. That's the reality of the fashion business. If there were substantial news coverage of her to compensate for her lack of shows/editorials that would be one thing, but there isn't. There are tons of notable Brazilian models (see Category:Brazilian female models) but she's not one of them. (There's not a problem of systematic bias here - Brazilians are huge in fashion modeling.) She really hasn't modeled much and her career seems to have died after one unremarkable season.

The few images I nominated were from when I was going through images tagged with the deprecated tag {{PD}} to fix the tags. Most I change to appropriate tags, often after researching whether there's a legitimate way for them to be PD. Keeping copyvio images here doesn't improve the project. Hey... care to chime in on the discussion page of Beer in Mexico? A user named Ronz is giving me grief over the sources I used to expand the article.
