Animal science degrees are often offered at land-grant universities[1], which will often have on-campus farms to give students hands-on experience with livestock animals.

Careers in Animal Science

There are a variety of careers available to someone with an animal science degree. Including, but not limited to, Academic researcher, Animal nutritionist, Animal physiotherapist technician, Nature conservation officer, Zookeeper, and Zoologist[2].

Animal behavior

Animal behavior is the study of how animals interact with their environment, interact with each other socially, and how they may acieve understanding of their environment[3]. Animal behavior is examined with the framework of its development, mechanism, adaptive value, and evolution[3].

Animal genetics

Animal genetics is the study of an animals genes and how they effect an animal's appearance, health, and function[4]. The information gained from such studies is often apllied to livestock breeding.

Veterinary medicine

Veterninary medicine is a specialization within the field of medicine focusing on the diagonosis, prevention, control, and treatment of diseases that effect both wild and domesticated animals[5]. There are three main medical positions within veterinary medicine, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and veterinary assistants[5].
