In.the Abrahamic religions, the Holy Spirit, also known as the Holy Ghost (Hebrew: רוח הקודש, romanizedruach ha-kodesh; Arabic: الروح القدس, romanizedal-Ruwh al-Quds), refers to the aspect of God whose influence is present in the material universe.

The concept of the Holy Spirit is referred to on numerous occasions in the Bible. In the Hebrew Bible, the term ruach Elohim (Hebrew: רוח אלהים) is used to refer to the worldly influence and power of God; it is varyingly translated into English as the "Spirit of God" (NIV)
