The author says his first sale was "an indifferent sex story to a tenth rate men's magazine."[2] He says science-fiction is the only consistently paying market for short fiction. He was fond of it in his early teens but pursued the literary marketplace with less luck and success. However, he believes the future of literature resides in science-fiction. He asks then why so much of it is bad. He blames its pulp roots: "in dreams and the substitution of megalomania for torment."[2] He believes it is too early to say as the future still holds a lot for the field. He then thanks a number of writers.
