My personal interests include playing various instruments, having at the age of 38 accidentally begun to learn the violin [go to my research page for an account of this]; I bake bread with two homegrown sourdough starters; I contribute to edits on patient information leaflets for Prostate Cancer UK and I am a member of the Trial Management Group for STAMPEDE, a multisite, multiphase clinical trial of prostate cancer therapies. In family terms, I am the very proud father of three amazing children, now all grown up, and grandfather to four beautiful grandchildren, and I owe all of this to my dear wife, Catherine, who has been by my side through everything for nearly four decades.
