List of international cricket centuries by Cheteshwar Pujara
[edit]Cheteshwar Pujara is an Indian cricketer who has made 18 centuries in Test matches for India. He is a right-handed batsman who plays domestically for Saurashtra, making his first class debut in December 2005.[1] He made his Test debut in October 2010 at Bangalore, before making his ODI debut in 2013 at Bulawayo.[2] As of February 2020 Pujara is ranked 7th on the ICC Test player rankings.
Pujara scored his first international century against New Zealand at Hyderabad, scoring 159 before being dismissed by Jeetan Patel. Pujara's high score came at Ahmedabad, with Pujara scoring 206* in the first innings, and then 41* in the second as India cruised to a 9 wicket win.[3] He finished as highest run scorer on India's 2013 tour of South Africa, helping to cement his place in the squad.[4] Pujara struggled for form during India's 2014 tour of England, struggling especially against the seam movement that is prevalent in English conditions,[5] but returned to form with a patient 145* off 289 balls at Colombo.[6] He then average over 60 in India's long 2016/17 home season, making four centuries across thirteen matches.[7] Pujara at one point was known as a home track bully,[8] but went a long way to throwing off this tag with impressive series in England and Australia from 2018 to 2019.[9]
Pujara is known for his solid defensive technique and temperament that allows him to play long innings in Test cricket. He regularly grinds down attacks with a lot of leaves and blocks early in his innings before cashing in with big scores. He likes to use his feet against spinners but seldom hits aerially, and has hit only 14 sixes in 124 innings.[10] Pujara holds the record for the most balls faced in a Test match innings for an Indian batsman with 525 in his century against Australia in 2017.[11] Pujara is regularly compared with former Indian batsman Rahul Dravid, and like Dravid he mainly bats at 3 in Tests.[12]
