Transmembrane domain

[edit]

Transmembrane domain does not have much information on it. The following articles might provide sources for additional information:

  • The role of transmembrane domains in membrane fusion, DOI10.1007/s00018-007-6439-x
  • Basic Neurochemistry (8th Edition), Chapter 2 - Membrane integral proteins have transmembrane domains that insert directly into lipid bilayers. This is great. Here's the citation: https://doi.org/10.1016/B978-0-12-374947-5.00002-X; (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/B978012374947500002X)
  • Transmembrane Domain Recognition during Membrane Protein Biogenesis and Quality Control doi: 10.1016/j.cub.2018.02.004. PMID: 29689233.
  • Alberts B, Johnson A, Lewis J, et al. Molecular Biology of the Cell. 4th edition. New York: Garland Science; 2002. Membrane Proteins. Available from: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK26878/
  • Anchors aweigh: protein localization and transport mediated by transmembrane domains, DOI10.1016/j.tcb.2013.05.005

Other potentially useful sources:

  • The role of palmitoylation and transmembrane domain in sorting of transmembrane adaptor proteins, DOI10.1242/jcs.175190
  • Sharpe, H. J., Stevens, T. J., & Munro, S. (2010). A comprehensive comparison of transmembrane domains reveals organelle-specific properties. Cell, 142(1), 158–169. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cell.2010.05.037
  • Our dear friend "Ion Channels of Excitable Membranes, Bertil Hille" has some potentially relevant information in chapter 13; see pgs. 414-422

Much of the readily available information deals with sorting mechanisms that are reliant on transmembrane domains. While this information is pertinent and well documented, several important and even more fundamental aspects of transmembrane domains are not well developed on the page. Many of these concepts are so well established that older articles will be needed for the information, or perhaps a textbook will provide an accurate review.

Dinosaurs

[edit]

Dinosaurs are cool. Everyone thinks dinosaurs are cool.

Allosaurus is my favorite dinosaur, followed closely by Apatosaurus and then Spinosaurus.

What's your favorite dinosaur?
