Diagonal Mario is a hack / mod for the game Mario World. It was created in about 2018 by, Lester Vine. It has since become a meme. It in the most simple terms is a hack / mod to make Mario World have new levels, mobs, and a new mario sprite. It has many references to multiple people / things online, such as vine sauce, pro-jared, and other mario hacks such as the main villian kochabo being taken from another mario hack. It takes alot of music from other video games, and media such as Crash Bandicoot 2, TouHou, Final Fantasy, Lazy Town, Nyan Cat, among other things. The hack also seems to have multiple unfinished parts in it, and other parts that appear bugged, such as a level where if a bomb explodes the game crashes, and you need to reset the games console. The game likes to deceive you quite often as, a sub-area where there are many munchers, and you are expected to get hit, but the game turns off the munchers hitbox, and there is a message-block that says something along the lines of, "Deceiving game design = good game design". Theres also a two-player mode, where player two gets to control diagonal luigi, but besides that nothing else really changes.
