The following is a list of the plants found in Plants vs. Zombies:

Plants obtained during adventure mode

[edit]

Following the completion of each level in Adventure Mode (except those ending in 4 and 9), a new plant is obtained. These plants can be used even from the beginning of subsequent games.

Plant name Action First appears Sun points Other notes
Pea shooters Shoots peas, one at a time, at zombies 1-1 100
Sunflower Produces sun used to buy plants. Each sun is worth 25 sun points. 1-2 50 Produces one sun worth 25 sun-points every 24 seconds.[1]
Cherry bomb Blows up all zombies in a range of 3x3 squares, centered in the square in which the cherry bomb is placed 1-3 150
Wall-Nut Blocks zombies from attacking plants. Takes a long time to eat so plants one other side can be safe for some time. 1-4 50 Can be jumped over by Pole vaulting zombies and Dolphin zombies, which lose their poles or dolphins in the process, and by Pogo zombies, which retain their pogo sticks. Balloon zombies can fly over them. Can be flattened by Zombonis and Gargantuars and destroyed by exploding Music box zombies.

Used as "bowling balls" on 1-5.
Red Wall-Nut In bowling levels, blows up all zombies in a range of 3x3 squares 1-5
-
Appears in bowling levels only
Potato mine Explodes and kills one zombie on contact. Takes time to arm itself. 1-6 25
Snow pea shooter Shoots snow peas, one-at-a-time, a zombies 1-7 175 Shoots at same speed as regular pea shooter. Snow peas do same amount of damage as regular peas, but also slow the speed of zombies they hit.
Chomper Eats a whole zombie. Takes time to chew the zombie, during which it cannot eat any other zombies, and it is vulnerable. 1-8 150
Repeater Shoots two peas at a time 1-9 200 Distinguishable in appearance from the regular single-pea shooter by the number of leaves. The single-pea shooter has one leaf on its back. The repeater has several.
Puff-shroom Shoots spores from a close range 2-1 0
Sun-shroom Provides small suns at first, then grows and provides normal suns 2-2 25 Is offered for use on night levels as more efficient way to obtain sun points, since sun is not provided from sky. Cost half the sun points of a sunflower, thereby allowing 2 to be planted with the initial 50 sun points. For the first 2 minutes, provides a small sun every 24 seconds worth 15 sun points. After 2 minutes, it grows and starts to offer a normal-sized sun every 24 seconds worth 25 points.
Fume-shroom Shoots fumes that appear as bubbles that damage zombies 2-3 75 Is particularly useful on Screendoor zombies. While other plants take a long time to kill screendoor zombies, these kill them quickly.
Grave buster Destroys graves, enabling plants to be planted in their space 2-4 75 One-time use. Vulnerable to be eaten prior to finishing their job if a zombie is present while they are doing their work. After grave is destroyed, a silver or gold coin or occasionally a blue diamond (worth 1000 coins) is received.
Hypno-shroom Makes a zombie fight for you 2-6 75 One-time use. When a zombie comes in contact with a Hypno-shroom, it goes in reverse, during which it attacks other zombies in the process.
Scaredy-shroom Long-range spore shooter 2-7 25 Unlike puff-shrooms, can shoot spores across the screen. But they hide when a zombie is in close range, thereby rendering them useless.
Ice-shroom Freezes all zombies on screen for a few seconds 2-8 75 Also useful against fireballs in level 5-10
Doom-shroom Blows up all zombies in an area of up to 5x3 2-9 125 Leaves a crater where it is placed. It is impossible to plant anything on the crater for several minutes following the explosion.
Lily pad Allows non-aquatic plants to be planted in water 3-1 25 Is required for planting any non-aquatic plant in water
Squash Squashes a zombie, killing it instantly. Single-use. 3-2 50 Can squash multiple zombies at one time if they are standing on the same square
Threepeater Shoots peas in three lanes 3-3 325
Tangle kelp Sinks one water zombie on contact 3-4 25
Jalapeño Destroys all zombies in a lane. One-time use. 3-6 125
Spikeweed Damages zombies that step on it; pops tires 3-7 100 Destructible only by Zombonis or Gargantuars. Other zombies that step on it do no damage. If the level has no Zombonis are Gargantuars, these are permanent unless removed by player. As few as 2 of them can kill a zombie.
Torchwood Turns peas that pass through it into fireballs 3-8 175 By turning into a fireball, a pea does twice the damage of a regular green pea. For example, if it takes 10 regular pea hits to kill a zombie, it'll take 5 fireballs to kill it.

Works on peas that travel through it in the same lane as the torchwood only. Does not turn peas into fireballs if the pea is being shot from a Threepeater into a different lane than the torchwood.

Only works with green peas. If a snow pea passes through a torchwood, it turns into a regular green pea and loses the benefits of being a snow pea.
Tall-nut Tall Wall-nut that can't be vaulted over 3-9 125 Like a Wall-nut but taller. If a Pole vaulting zombie, Dolphin zombie, or Pogo zombie attempt to jump over it, they will lose that item and be reduced to a regular zombie. A Ladder zombie can leave its ladder behind, allowing other zombies to climb over it. A Zomboni or Gargantuar can crush it.
Sea-shroom Short-range spore shooter 4-1 0 Water version of the puff-shroom. Can be planted in water only, but also has the status of a shroom, so it can only be used at night wihtout a coffee bean.
Plantern Lights of part of screen where there is normally fog 4-2 25 In Vasebreaker, allows player to see what is inside adjacent vases.
Cactus Shooter that does damage to all zombies but also pops balloons 4-3 125
Blover Blows away fog and balloon zombies 4-4 100 One-time use. Will blow away all balloon zombies that are on the screen at the time. Will blow away fog temporarily, which will return after a period of time.
Split pea shooter Shoots peas in both directions 4-6 125 Shoots one pea at a time forward (to the right) like a regular pea shooter. Shoots two peas at a time backwards (to the left) like a repeater.
Starfruit Shoots stars in 5 directions 4-7 125 Shoots starts in 5 directions that do damage to zombies. The starts are shot in the following directions: up, down, up-right, down-right, and left (back). This enables the stars to be useful at shooting zombies in other lanes or those that have passed the defenses. The starfruits do not shoot forward (right) straight at the zombies coming toward them.
Pumpkin Protects plants 4-8 125 When planted on an existing plant, protects a plant by making it take longer for a zombie to eat that plant. The zombie will spend a long time eating the pumpkin before it can eat the plant. Pumpkins can be planted before or after a plant, but on the roof, must be planted on a space with a flower pot. Ladder zombies are able to place their ladders on a pumpkin, thereby enabling other zombies to climb it, and Zombonis and Gargantuars instantly crush plants with pumpkins.
Magnet-shroom Attracts metal objects 4-9 100 Snatches metal objects away from certain zombies, thereby reducing them to the weakness level and behaviors of garden variety zombies, though they retain their original appearance minus the object. Objects attracted by magnets include buckets, screendoors, football helmets, pickaxes, pogo sticks, and ladders.

Magnet-shrooms can attract objects from any such zombie within 3 squares in any direction. After snatching an object, the magnet-shroom holds the object for several seconds during which time the magnet cannot attract other objects. After the object disappears from the magnet, the magnet-shroom can once again attract another object.
Cabbage-pult Hurls cabbage at zombies 5-1 100 One of three plants useful on the roof.

1 cabbage hit=2 pea hits
Flower pot Allows plants to be planted on roof 5-2 25 Required for planting any type of plant on roof.

Technically not a plant and therefore not offered as a type of plant in Zen Garden, though all Zen Garden plants are found in flower pots.
Kernel pult Hurls corn kernels and butter 5-3 100 Hurls both corn kernels and butter. Each corn kernel or lump or butter=1 pea hit. The corn kernels appear smaller and each count as one pea hit. The butter lumps land on the head of zombies, count as one pea hit each, and freeze the zombie in its location for a few seconds, leaving it powerless. All zombies are frozen by corn, including Gargantuars.
Coffee bean Wakes up shrooms 5-4 75 Normally, shrooms do not work during daytime levels. If planted, they sleep. But the coffee bean, if planted on a sleeping shroom, allows the shroom to perform its regular function during a daytime level. For this reason, the use of a shroom during a daytime level costs 75 additional sun points.
Garlic Diverts zombies into other lanes 5-6 50 Each zombie that comes in contact with a piece of garlic takes a bite of of the garlic, makes a sound of disgust, and shifts into the lane either directly above or below. Since the zombies are taking a bite out of the garlic, as more zombies come in contact, the garlic will gradually be eaten. A single garlic can take up to 20 bites (zombie hits).
Umbrella leaf Protects plants from bungees and catapults 5-7 100 Protects all plants in the squares directly adjacent either above, below, left, right, or diagonally from being stolen by a bungee zombie or being destroyed by the basketballs of a catapult zombie
Marigold Gives gold and silver coins 5-8 50 The Marigold has no effect on fighting zombies other than slowing them while they eat it. Its purpose is to produce coins.
Melon-pult Hurls watermelons at zombies 5-9 300 Does heavy damage to large groups of zombies. One melon hit=4 pea hits. Additionally, the melon can strike multiple zombies in the same location with that hit.

Plants purchased from Crazy Dave's shop

[edit]
Plant name Action Coins Sun points Other notes
Cattail Shoots spikes at zombie 10,000 225 Can only be planted in water, and must be planted on a lily pad. The total cost in sun points for one is therefore 250 (225+25 for a lily pad). Spikes are aimed at zombies anywhere on the screen in any lane and any direction. If multiple cattails are planted, they will aim their spikes together at the same zombie, and when that zombie is killed, they will aim at another zombie.
