Derek Jeter: Background and Lifestyle

Derek Sanderson Jeter is currently the New York Yankees shortstop and captain. He was born on June 26 1974. He is the son of Charles and Dorothy Jeter. He has one younger sister named Sharlee Jeter. He was born in Pequannock,New Jersey and later moved to Kalamazoo,Michigan. Derek and Sharlee had to sign a contract with their parents each year that stated their goals and laws. Derek was only allowed to pay base ball if he did everything that was stated in the contract. He did not only play basebal but also played basketball and many other sports. He was not the only one in the family who played alot of sports and did many things,his sister Sharlee also played many sports. He got into baseball when his grandma encouraged him to like it and all his cousins liked the Yankees which made him like the team and want to play for the team. When he was 12 his teacher asked the class that he was in to predict what he woud be in ten years and he wrote down he will be playing shortstop for the New York Yankees.

Derek Jeter: College Years

When Derek finished high school he got accepted into the University Of Michigan to play baseball there. He was the shortstop on the team. After a while the pitcher on the team was replaced because Derek's pitches were to fast and strong for him. Then later Derek won the gatorade award for outstanding performance in education and sports. The Yankees drafted Derek in 1993.

Derek Jeter: Minor Leagues

While in the minor leagues Derek got homesick and made many errors and did not score that much. He would call his family everyday and talk to them. Later on Derek started to play a little bit better but still was homesick.

Derek Jeter: Major Leagues(First Game)

His first game in the Major Leagues was when in 1995 Tony Fernandez who was a shortstop hurt his knee and could not play so the Yankees had take him in the game and he played very well and made the team win.
