Early life

[edit]

Jessica Dunn Rovinelli was born in 1988. She studied film at Wesleyan University in Connecticut but stated that her real education occurred in the movie theatres of New York[2].

Career

[edit]

After college, she started working as a film critic. She directed two short films: We’ve Loved You So Much (2012) and Fuck Work (2014), before completing her first feature, a documentary called Empathy (2016)[2] which portraits the life of a heroin-addicted sex worker. Her second feature film, So Pretty (2019), focuses on a group of queer young people who form a community inside a Brooklyn apartment. It premiered at the Berlinale and received various awards on international festivals.

In 2020, she directed a short film called Marriage Story. Currently, she lives in New York where she edits commercials and branded content while working on her new ideas. She also writes critics for magazines such as The Guardian and Filmmaker[4].
