Frotcom - Vehicle tracking / Fleet management System
[edit]The main reason is that the GPS tracking system allows a company to monitor and control its vehicles. And this makes it easier for a company to track its fleet, therefore, its costs and its performance.
Fleet management tracking: how does it work?
[edit]- Usually, fleet management providers offer a web-based system, mobile apps or a software managers must download and install on their devices. Managers, users and/or drivers must login in in that system to access all the information they need.
- It will be required to install a small unit containing a GPS tracker device with the size of a matchbox, in each vehicle. This device is connected, by cable, to the vehicle’s battery so its movement can be supervised: where they are, where they were, when they began the journey, where they stopped and for how long.
- This device receives a SIM card (GSM card) responsible for all the GPRS communications needed to send the vehicle’s positions.
- This system is applicable to any type of vehicle: Heavy, Light, Motorbikes, Others
- It might be useful to have a bumper sticker displayed as a dissuasion element of theft.

What is Frotcom?
[edit]It is a Vehicle Tracking and Fleet Management solution which integrates state-of-the-art telematics with user-friendly software and powerful analytics, providing a comprehensive SaaS fleet intelligence toolkit.
Frotcom is a modular solution.
These are some of the technologies incorporated by this vehicle tracking and fleet system: C#, .NET Framework and .NET Core, T-SQL (MS SQL Server), Object-Oriented Design, RESTful Services.
- In order to access Frotcom, users only need an Internet connection and a web browser.
- Web access is through web.frotcom.com, but users may download Frotcom Fleet Manager app through Play Store or App Store. There is also an app (Frotcom Driver) for drivers to manage their own results. There is a free test app everyone can download using their smartphone as the GPS tracker.
- A small unit containing a GPS tracker device with a SIM card (GSM card) must be installed in every vehicle. The device is connected to the vehicle’s battery, and it will monitor its movements, where they are, where they were, when they began the journey, where they stopped and for how long and manage all the communications concerning vehicle’s locations.

History of Frotcom International
[edit]The company was created by Valério Marques and Renato Ferreira, from a spinoff of a R&D company called Quadriga.
After the Dotcom bubble, this company had a critical downsize which forced Valério and Renato to focus on only one of their ongoing projects, from their wide portfolio, Frotcom (a fleet management system).
Under the brand “Frotcom - Intelligent Fleets”, the Portuguese company started expanding operations, in 2008, to other countries and is now distributed in more than 40 countries across the globe (Europe, Africa, America, Middle East and Australasia) through a network of highly qualified Frotcom Certified Partners - local companies that know local markets and needs.
Timeline
[edit]1996 – Valério Marques, an Electrical Engineer, founded a R&D company, focused on technology projects called Quadriga.
1997 – Official launch of Frotcom software.
1998 - Espírito Santo Tech Ventures (ESTV), a subsidiary of Banco Espirito Santo (BES), invested in Quadriga, entering the company’s capital. It was in this year that Renato Ferreira joined Quadriga.
2004 - By the end of the year, and after several attempts to get business back up, following the bubble pop, ESTV sold back their shares to the founders who invited Renato Ferreira to become partner.
2005 - Valério and Renato choose one of the ongoing projects to reduce the excessive diversification of the company’s portfolio. They decided to keep and develop Frotcom – a vehicle tracking system that, at the time, allowed to know where a vehicle was and where it had been. This decision was based on the recent availability of a technology breakthrough – GPRS – cheaper than SMS.
They presented the project to a potential client; the project was approved and they started working on a new Frotcom solution from scratch.
2008 - Based on the fact that they only had one product- Frotcom. it was decided to change the company’s name from Quadriga to Frotcom International. In the same year, the company started expanding operations to other countries.
2016 - Already with a large global presence, the company presented a new brand image, to make sure the client would have the same perception wherever he was based.
2018 - HCapital Partners- SCR, S.A., an equity firm, acquired a minority stake in Frotcom International, fostering the company’s capacity to expand to new geographies and keep launching new products and services.
2022 - Snowfall Capital, LCC partnered with the board team, acquiring the company. This partnership meant to protect the company’s team and culture, keeping the business growing.
In 2022, over 15,000 professionals from companies all over the world are using Frotcom to manage their fleets.
