From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zac Poonen born in 1939 in New Delhi, is an Indian Bible teacher and church leader in the Christian Fellowship Church, a holiness movement in India with hundreds of churches. In the United States, his message is spread by Raven's Ministry

He has written more than 25 books, which have been translated into several languages, including Dutch and German.

Poonen is very sharp in his criticism of today's free church, especially its charismatic part. The legacy of the holiness movement still resonates in all its force in him and he is very old-fashioned and puritanical. He believes, for example, that Christian rock music is of the devil, a view he shared with the preacher David Wilkerson. He also strongly condemned the theology of the prosperity gospel. The theme of holiness is absolutely dominant in everything he writes.

Biography

[edit]

He initially served in the Indian Navy, like his great examples Johan Oscar Smith and Elias Aslaksen, but resigned in 1966 to devote himself full-time to spiritual work. Poonen was theologically influenced by the holiness movement in the early 20th century and Brunstad Christian Church. He was also influenced by: Madame Guyon, Charles Finney, D.L.Moody, Jessie Penn-Lewis, Watchman Nee, A.W.Tozer, Sadhu Sundar Singh and Bakht Singh.

From 1971 to 1991, he was part of what is now Brunstad Christian Church. But a dispute with the Norwegian leadership led to his resignation.
