Army Projects - LAND 19 - SHORAD
[edit]Land 19 Phase 7B - Short Range Ground Based Air Defence (SHORAD)
[edit]Air Force Projects
[edit]AIR6500 - Joint Air Battle Management System (JABMS)
[edit]AIR6502 Phase 1 - Medium Range Ground Based Air Defence (MRGBAD)
[edit]The Government issued a request for proposals for MRGBAD in 2021, and it received first pass approval in August 2023.[2]
The aim of MRGBAD is to create a medium-range air defence capability within the Joint Air Battle Management System (JABMS) that will have the ability to engage targets out of range of the SHORAD capability.[2]
American-Israeli bid for MRGBAD
[edit]In 2023, a joint American-Israeli bid was put forth for the MRGBAD capability.[3] The bid was for the David's Sling system.[d] David's Sling has a range of 200-300km range, and is manufactured by Israeli state-owned company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.[4] The system proved useful during the 2024 Iranian attack on Israel, wherein the multi-tiered system (much like the Australian system intends to be), shot down more than 140 Iranian hypersonic and supersonic ballistic and cruise missiles.[5]
AIR6503 Phase 1 - Advanced High Speed Missile Defence (AHSMD)
[edit]Advanced High Speed Missile Defence is aimed to be Australia's future capability to engage hypersonic and advanced ballistic missiles as well as related manoeuvring projectiles.[6] The Government has stated that initial operational capability for AHSMD will be in the mid-2030s.[7]
