VoiceBox Technologies was a private, Bellevue, WA based voice-interface software company that specialized in developing voice applications for home, auto, and mobile markets until April 2018.[1] The company offered Voice Artificial Intelligence products and services in speech recognition, natural language understanding and text to speech technologies[2] and tested and developed natural language interfaces to be incorporated into the Internet of Things.[3] The company partnered with smartphone, automotive and wearable manufacturers to integrate speech recognition technology into products and allow users to interact with products through voice commands.[4] VoiceBox Technologies provided Natural Language Understanding technology for Samsung devices[5] and all Toyota models[6]. Their technologies are also featured in Fiat-Chrysler, Maserati, Renault, and Subaru, among others.[7]

Company History

[edit]

VoiceBox Technologies was co-founded in 2001 by the Kennewick brothers. Mike Kennewick is the current chairman and chief executive officer, Rich Kennewick is the president, Bob Kennewick is chief technology officer. The company was founded to bring voice-recognition software to connected living, devices and services.[8]

Acquisitions and Collaborations

[edit]

VoiceBox Technologies acquired the speech product unit, Telisma, from OnMobile in 2016. Telisma is based in France and provides speech technology to customers including Telefonica, Orange and Vodafone. In April 2016, VoiceBox announced plans to integrate into Samsung's ARTIK Platform.[9] In June 2016, VoiceBox announced the integration of its Voice Artificial Intelligence technology into the INRIX Open Car platform, an automotive application platform.[10]

The VoiceBox Natural Language Understanding technology includes context tracking through its Context Management software, which recognizes voice, gestures and touch as input and integrates each into its language processing. Its Context Management software also processes contextual conversations by remembering the domain of each question a user asks, allowing users to switch between multiple conversations and requests[11]. The VoiceBox Automotive Software Development Kit (version 5.0) was launched in June 2016 for Windows, Android and Linux platforms. This solution powers in-car voice systems by integrating Embedded ASR engine and patented context management. The Software Development Kit processes complex and contextual conversations with deep networks that processes user queries in both embedded and cloud systems. [12] VoiceBox also offers Embedded Automatic Speech Recognition, an automotive application that powers in-car voice systems. The solution converts speech into text and supports more than 20 languages.[13]
