Evert González Rodríguez (Vergara, Cundinamarca, April 22, 1985), known simply as Evert González, is a Colombian English teacher and writer. He is the author of several books, including Un deseo, mil lágrimas (A Wish, a Thousand Tears), published on July 20, 2020.
Biography
[edit]Evert González has ventured into the world of foreign language teaching by implementing a method established in Germany and France in the 20th century. The Direct Method for teaching English as a second language in Colombia follows the guidelines set by the Ministry of National Education and the basic standards for competencies.[1]
Career
[edit]After finishing at Colegio Fidel León Triana, Evert González enrolled at Universidad El Bosque in Bogotá, where he pursued a degree in bilingual education. He began publishing educational articles and eventually focused on writing and teaching.
He worked as an educator in Bogotá, in several private institutions, and also as a private tutor. González published his first novel, Un deseo, mil lágrimas, in 2020. He has integrated his teaching career with literature and collaborated with students on educational projects related to English.
The methodology Evert González has promoted for years consists of establishing a visual and immediate connection between experience and expression, linking words, idioms, and their physical or bodily expression without relying on the students' native language. This method, which falls under natural language teaching methods, is the most widely used. However, it poses a challenge[2] for teachers[3], as it is one of the goals of the National Bilingualism Program. Additionally, Colombia is among the countries that need to improve English language learning.
Works
[edit]Throughout his career as a writer and author, González has developed stories based on real events, blending non-fiction with fiction, such as in his work El retroceso de la muerte (The Recession of Death), which deals with humans confined by a virus, referencing COVID-19. His book El círculo social (The Social Circle) discusses human monotony and the environment they inhabit. His work Huellas más allá del firmamento (Footprints Beyond the Firmament) explores the existence of human beings on Earth and what will happen when they cease to exist.
In addition, his book Indigente y justiciero (Homeless and Avenger) is featured in the National Literature Contest of Medellín[4], organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Medellín in collaboration with the Penguin Random House editorial group.
