The year 2023 is the 31st year in the history of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), a darts promotion based in the United Kingdom.
Premier Events
[edit]The PDC Premier Events are a series of major professional darts tournaments organized by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). These events, globally broadcasted, are considered the most prestigious in the darts sport due their high level of competition and largest prize funds in PDC.
Ranked
[edit]These events contribute to a player's ranking on the PDC Order of Merit. The prize money won in these tournaments is added to the player's total earnings over a two-year period, which determines their PDC OoM ranking.
Non-ranked
[edit]These events do not affect the PDC Order of Merit; therefore, the prize money won does not contribute to the players' PDC OoM rankings.

PDC Tour Card
[edit]128 players are granted Tour Cards, which enables them to participate in all Players Championships events, qualifiers for all European Tour, the UK Open and select televised events.[22]
Tour cards
[edit]The 2023 Tour Cards were awarded to:[22]
- (64) The top 64 players from the PDC Order of Merit after the 2023 World Championship.
- (30) 30 qualifiers from 2022 Q-School not ranked in the top 64 of the PDC Order of Merit following the World Championship.
- (1) The winner of the 2021 UK Challenge Tour (Jim Williams).
- Jim Williams was also in the top 64 of the PDC Order of Merit, and therefore, one extra Tour Card was awarded to a Q-School qualifier.
- (1) The winner of the 2021 European Challenge Tour (Matt Campbell).
- (1) The winner of the 2021 UK Development Tour (Bradley Brooks).
- (1) The winner of the 2021 European Development Tour (Rusty-Jake Rodriguez).
- (2) Two highest qualifiers from 2022 Challenge Tour (Robert Owen and Danny van Trijp).
- (2) Two highest qualifiers from 2022 Development Tour (Geert Nentjes and Jurjen van der Velde).
- (8) The daily winners from the 2023 Q-Schools.
Afterwards, the playing field was complemented by the highest qualified players from the Q-School Order of Merit until the maximum number of 128 Pro Tour Card players has been reached. In 2023, that means that a total of 19 additional players qualified this way.
Q-School
[edit]The PDC Pro Tour Qualifying School (or Q-School) is split into the UK Q-School for British players, held at the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes, England; and the European Q-School for the rest of European players, held at Wunderland Kalkar in Kalkar, Germany. Non-European players can choose which Q-School to compete in[23].
There are two stages in Q-School[24]:
- The First Stage, played between 9–11 January, is entered by any darts player who registers to Q-School. The eight quarterfinalists from each of the three days qualify into the Final Stage alongside other players coming from a First Stage ranking to produce a full list of 128 players for each Final Stage.
- The Final Stage, held between 12–15 January, consists of all players qualified from the First Stage plus players exempted to the Final Stage, as those who lost their PDC Tour Cards after the 2023 World Championship, and those who finished from third to sixteenth in the 2022 Challenge Tour and Development Tour Orders of Merit and do not have PDC Tour Cards yet.
The winner of each day's play in the Final Stage is given a PDC Tour Card.
UK Q-School | |||
---|---|---|---|
January 12 | January 13 | January 14 | January 15 |

European Q-School | |||

To complete the field of 128 Tour Card Holders, a ranking is created for each Q School and a point is awarded for every win after the Last 64. Available Tour Card places for each Q-School are allocated in proportion to the total number of participants, with 9 cards going to the UK Q-School and 10 going to the European Q-School.
At the end of the fourth day in the Final Stage, based on their ranking, the following players picked up Tour Cards as a result:
UK Q-School Order of Merit[28] |
European Q-School Order of Merit[28]

Global Affiliate Tours
[edit]The PDC Global Affiliate Tours are a series of regional darts competitions organized by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) in collaboration with various local darts organizations around the world[155].
An update on the PDC Order of Merit rules limited the participation of PDC Tour Card holders on Affiliate Tour or Affiliate Tour Events to qualify for PDC major events, such as the World Darts Championship, the World Cup of Darts or the World Series of Darts, since 2023. Under PDC Order of Merit Rule 3.9[77], first year Tour Card holders can play without restrictions, in their second year they may only participate if at the entries' closing date they are outside the top 64 of the PDC Order of Merit, and beyond the second year of being a Tour Card Holder they may not qualify for a PDC Event via this route.
In 2023, the Asian Tour returned, and two new regional tours were added: the African Continental Tour (ACT), in partnership with the African Darts Group, and the Championship Darts Latin America and Caribbean Tour (CDLC), in collaboration with the Championship Darts Corporation, the association in charge of the North American Affiliate Tour. This resulted in a record-breaking seven active PDC Global Affiliate Tours.

The PDC Asian Tour, the PDC Global Affiliate Tour specifically for Asian darts players, returned in 2023 following a break of three years with an expanded tour consisting of 24 events held over 8 weekends. The first 15 events were confirmed on 10 November 2022, with the remaining 9 confirmed at a later date.[164]
The prizes for this PDC Global Affiliate Tour are as follows[165]:
- The top four players on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, who have not obtained the further reward via another method, earn a spot in the first round of the 2024 World Darts Championship. A fifth spot could be opened if none of the PDC Asian Championship finalists are Japanese.
- The top two players of the PDC Asian Championship, who have not obtained the further reward via another method, qualify to the first round of the 2024 World Darts Championship. Furthermore, the winner of the PDC Asian Championship receives an invitation to play in the 2023 Grand Slam of Darts.
- If no Japanese player reaches the PDC Asian Championship final, the best-placed non-qualified Japanese player from that tournament will get a place in the first round of the 2024 World Darts Championship.
- The winners of the PDC China Premier League playoffs and the PDC India Qualifier tournament each gain a place in the first round of the 2024 World Darts Championship.
Additionally, the Asian Tour Order of Merit was used, as of the cutoff date following the twelfth event, to determine the qualified players in the 2023 World Cup of Darts, selecting the two highest-ranked players from the competing Asian nations; those being Hong Kong, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. If the nation had active PDC Tour Card holders, the places were completed first following the PDC Order of Merit, and later the Asian Tour Order of Merit[166]. Other qualified nations, like Bahrain, China and India held special qualifiers for the event.

[edit]The 2023 PDC India Qualifier tournament was held on 28 October, with the winner qualifying for the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship[203]. The prizes for this PDC Global Affiliate Tour are as follows:
- The highest-ranked American and the highest-ranked Canadian players on the CDC Order of Merit, who have not obtained the further reward via another method, each earn a spot in the first round of the 2024 World Darts Championship. If the winner of the North American Championship is ineligible to qualify for the event via that route, an additional spot will be awarded to the next highest-ranked player, regardless of nationality.
- The winner of the CDC North American Championship earns a place in the first round of the 2024 World Darts Championship and qualifies for the 2023 Grand Slam of Darts.

North American Championship
[edit]The 2024 CDC North American Championship was played on June 3rd, 2024, on the Saturday afternoon of the US Darts Masters, just like the previous year.[220]
Under PDC Order of Merit Rule 3.9[77], champion Jeff Smith (third year of Tour Card) was not eligible to qualify for the 2024 PDC World Darts Championship or 2023 Grand Slam of Darts by virtue of winning the North American Championship.[221] Therefore, an extra third place in the World Darts Championship was awarded to the top-seeded players in the 2023 CDC Tour Order of Merit.

The Professional Darts Corporation Nordic & Baltic Tour (PDCNB) is the PDC Global Affiliate Tour for players from Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden. On 15 January 2023, PDC Nordic & Baltic announced their 2023 calendar, which had five weekends in five different countries[267].
The prizes for this PDC Global Affiliate Tour are as follows:
- The top four players on the PDCNB Order of Merit, who have not obtained the further reward via another method, earn a spot in the first round of the 2024 World Darts Championship.
- The players in the Top 8 of the PDCNB Order of Merit, who have not obtained a PDC Tour Card before the 2024 Q-School, receive free entry to the later event.
- The two highest ranked U23 players on the PDCNB Order of Merit obtain a place in the 2023 PDC World Youth Championship.
Additionally, the PDCNB Order of Merit was used, as of the cutoff date following the eighth event, to determine the qualified players in the 2023 World Cup of Darts, selecting the two highest-ranked players from some of the competing Nordic and Baltic nations, such as Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Lithuania [268]. If a nation had active PDC Tour Card holders, the places were filled first according to the PDC Order of Merit, and subsequently by the PDCNB Tour Order of Merit. Other qualified nations, like Latvia and Sweden used different criteria to determine their pairings.
