Modders have also ported the game for other platforms. A fan released a full, non-emulated port for Windows in 2020 with no advance notice.[1]

In a resurgence of Super Mario 64 creepypasta (horror-related legends shared on the Internet) since 2019, modders changed game files to put the player-character in unsettling scenarios, both in the modified game and as presented in edited videos and screenshots. An image known as the "Super Mario 64 iceberg" aggregates the conspiracy theories spun off of these creepypasta legends, depicting well-known legends atop the iceberg and increasingly bizarre legends beneath. A video explanation of the iceberg had over 2.2 million YouTube views. Interest in these creepypastas has increased with the Nintendo gigaleak and announcement of Super Mario 3D All-Stars.[2]
