Sandy Hill



Sandra Marth Hill (born February 2nd 1947; Centralia, Washington) is an American television journalist and has been involved in news reporting since 1969. She is most known for her 6 year tenure on Good Morning America. She also piloted 20/20 with Peter Jennings. After GMA, Sandy returned to Los Angeles as a TV Anchor of the evening news with Jerry Dumphy. Multi-talented, multi-dimensional Sandy anchored local programming in Los Angeles (The Big News 1973 to 1975,------,-------) Seattle(-----, ------, ------) and New York, where she anchored national programs such as People, for People Magazine and Wide World of sports, where she won an Emmy for “The Iditarod”.

Sandy graduated from Centralia High School in ----- and went on to attend the University of Washington and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. After college Sandy worked for Seattle First National Bank, where she met and married Craig Hill also with the bank. Shortly after their marriage in 1969 Sandy began her career in television with KIRO, the CBS affiliate in Seattle as the 12 PM news anchor. Sandy at one time anchored and/or reported the stations Noon, Evening and late new News shows, garnering a vast following in the Pacific Northwest. During her tenure she won multiple local Emmy Awards for broadcasting.

In 1973 Sandy was offered the first women anchor job in a major market, Los Angeles as co-anchor of KNXT’s (the CBS owned station) Evening News with Jerry Dumphy. During her tenure with KNXT she anchored individual station productions, such as _____________, ___________, etc.. Toward the end of 1976, Sandy and her co-anchor were asked, by the stations marketing department, to participate in a focus group study involving a galvanic skin reponse test by a control group audience. The test (article from LA Times) caused both she and her co-anchor to be fired. The very day she was fired she was hired by the then manager of KABC (the ABC owned station) as a news reporter.

In 1977 ABC asked Sandy to join David Hartman, ------------------, -----------------, ----------------, etc. on ABC’s Good Morning America broadcast from New York as co-host. While there, Sandy interviewed celebrities of the time, including Frank Sinatra, as he prepared to host Ronald Regan’s inauguration, -----------------,----------------,---------------------,----------------,etc. . She covered historic events such as -----------------------,----------------------,---------------------------,----------------,etc.. She broadcast for GMA from the Kentucky Derby for four years running, from the Indianpolis 500, the 1980 Winter Olympics, from Lake Placid, ---------------------,--------------------,----------------,-----------------------, etc.. In 1981 Sandy left GMA to work for CBS Sports and Wide World of Sports where she covered everything from World Surfing Championships in Hawaii to the Iditorod in Alaska.

In 1982 Sandy was asked by CBS to return to KNXT in Los Angeles as an evening News Anchor for the 6 and 11 pm shows. In 1985 she gave birth to her son Timothy and continued with KNXT until 1990 when she left to do the nationally recognized “Home Show” on ABC. The Home Show was the predecessor to Martha Stewart, _______________, ______________, etc. During that time she worked for the British Government on a travelog for Britian that eventually aired on PBS. In 1992 Sandy, her son and husband returned to their home state of Washington to raise their son. Sandy has sense, written articles and books, winning the Pacific Northwest Literature award for “Dance While the Moon Shine”, a tribute to her family and specifically her Grandmother, who raised her family in Southwest Washington during the Depression Era. Sandy continues to write and at times, helps her husband who continues with his commercial real estate career.
