Redcar is the largest town in the borough of Redcar and Cleveland[1], a unitary authority ceremonially in North Yorkshire and in the North East region.

History

[edit]

Only during the 1800s did Redcar rise from being a small fishing hamlet into a town; until 1867 it was part of the parishes of Marske-by-the-Sea and Upleatham. In 1890, the town had a population of around 2500, was well-lit and relied heavily on tourism[2].
