Speedy deletion of Kathryn O'Reily

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Kathryn O'Reily requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Triwbe (talk) 06:24, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Merrya Small

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Merrya Small requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later." You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

Flagging Matt Roe for further review

[edit]

Hello, Colors8 … I recently encountered the article about Matt Roe and in my opinion, it either lacks sufficient Attribution that it satisfies the Notability criteria for Biographies, or it may violate the Conflict of interest guideline, or perhaps it violates a copyright.

I am considering tagging Matt Roe (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) for deletion according to the Deletion policy … I do not have time to examine the article in depth at the moment, and it may improve over time, in which case this warning was premature.

I have created this initial entry on your Talk page because you are either the original author of the article, or else a recent contributor to it; I will leave more detailed information regarding my specific concerns about the article on its Discussion page … please respond either there or on this Talk page, instead of on my Talk page, in order to avoid fragmenting the conversation.

Be sure to read Ownership of articles, and remember that other editors may not share your opinion about the notability of the article's subject.

I do not mean to imply that your contribution is unappreciated … perhaps you should read Your first article … and remember, there was a time when I knew less about how Wikipedia works than you know right now, and I am always available to help you become a more proactive contributor. — 151.200.237.53 (talk) 08:28, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actress articles

[edit]

Can you put some more time into these articles? It seems as though you're just copying stuff from IMDB. The articles should have a lot more context... "X is an actress" even... right now you're not even that. It would be best if you included references, too. --Rividian (talk) 03:17, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Cooper Huckabee

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Cooper Huckabee, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. A tag has been placed on The Initiation (1984 film), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as articles for deletion. If you can indicate how The Initiation (1984 film) is different from the previously posted material, or if you can indicate why this article should not be deleted, I advise you to place the template {{hangon}} underneath the other template on the article, and also put a note on Talk:The Initiation (1984 film) saying why this article should stay. An admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 4 under General criteria. If you believe the original discussion was unjustified, please feel free to use deletion review, but do not continue to repost the article if it is deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Notability of Carolyn Purdy Gordon

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Carolyn Purdy Gordon requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. 151.200.237.53 (talk) 12:56, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop recreating articles after they have been deleted ... you have demonstrated a pattern of creating articles about non-notable actors and films that are quickly deleted, and then you post the same material again ... if this disruptive behavior continues, you may face review at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, and you could be blocked from editing. — 151.200.237.53 (talk · contribs) 13:11, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of actors

[edit]

Hey there. I'm responding to your question on the Administrators' Incident noticeboard regarding the deletion or proposed deletion of some articles you've created. I think the issue you're coming up against is that of notability, so I'll try and explain how that works here.

Essentially, we require that the subjects of our articles be notable before they're included. Notability is kind of a judgment call, so we've got a number of guidelines on how to determine someone is notable at this link. In this case, dealing with actors, the specific link about entertainers is right here. Basically, the person needs to have been in films that are also considered notable - and we have some guidelines for films here. All articles have to be backed up by reliable sources - links to newspapers, magazines, and similar sources are best. IMDb is questionable, unfortunately, because it allows for users to input information.

What's happening with your articles is that other people are marking them as non-notable, and administrators like myself then determine, using these guidelines, whether they are notable. In the case of a speedy deletion tag, the article is usually deleted outright; however, if you see that, you can follow the instructions in the tag and place a hangon notice - but you then need to explain on the article talk page why you feel it meets notability standards. Several of your articles seem to have been tagged with proposed deletion notices, which you are also able to contest simply by removing the tag - but again, you should outline your reasons on the talk page. In those cases, don't be surprised if your article is taken to articles for deletion for discussion by the wider community.

I hope this helps clear up your questions. If you have any more queries, feel free to contact me on my talk page. Tony Fox (arf!) 21:30, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My comment

[edit]

I would like to add that it is not a good idea to simply copy information that you find on imdb as you seem to have been doing. If people want information on lesser known films or actors then they can go to Imdb. Wikipedia is not a mirror and your contributions so far have not been acceptable. We need contributors, but I ask you politely to read WP documentation such as Wikipedia:Your first article and Wikipedia:Reliable sources and think about satisfying the criteria laid down therein before creating another cut and past article. --Triwbe (talk) 10:16, 17 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flagging Bunty Bailey for further review

[edit]

Hello, Colors8 … I recently encountered the article about Bunty Bailey and in my opinion, it either lacks sufficient Attribution that it satisfies the Notability criteria for Biographies, or it may violate the Conflict of interest guideline, or perhaps it violates a copyright.

I am considering tagging Bunty Bailey (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) for deletion according to the Deletion policy … I do not have time to examine the article in depth at the moment, and it may improve over time, in which case this warning was premature.

I do not mean to imply that your contribution is unappreciated … perhaps you should read Your first article … and remember, there was a time when I knew less about how Wikipedia works than you know right now. — Triwbe (talk) 17:13, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again, Colors8 ...

If you insist on creating these articles about actors and films by simply doing a copy&paste of their Internet Movie Database pages, then at least use the {{Imdb name}} and {{Imdb title}} templates, and link their movies to the articles about them ... please see this talk page for examples of how to use them, and for other useful templates.

And remember, if having an Imdb listing were sufficient reason to have a Wikipedia article, then a bot could be created that would make an article for every entry in the Imdb, and you wouldn't have to waste your time doing it manually.

Note that unless you provide some WP:RS coverage of the subjects when you create the articles, they will be summarily tagged for deletion by Some Other Editor ... Happy Editing! — 151.200.237.53 (talk · contribs) 19:26, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Shakma

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Shakma requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

– moonty (talk) (contribs) 08:11, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
