Colby is a communications and media professional from Portland, Oregon. He worked in journalism for radio stations KUGN and KXL from 2003-2011. He first began working in public relations for Waggener Edstrom Worldwide (now WE Communications). He moved to The Hoffman Agency in 2014 and CMD in 2015. He has served as a member of the Portland Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) from 2014-2016 and served as the president of PRSA Oregon throughout 2017.

In 2017, Colby was named the Director of Communications for the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. This user, in accordance with the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, discloses that they have been paid by M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust for their contributions to Wikipedia.
