The Battle of Somme The battle of Somme was a battle in WW1 fought between the British and French against the Germans. The battle was fought from July 1, 1916 to November 18, 1916. It was fought at a river in France named "Somme". It was one of the largest battles in WW1. Also it was one of the bloodiest battles in history, there were over 100,000,000 casualties. Over 400,000 of those casualties were British troops, 250,000 were French, and over 230,000 were German. The first use of the tank took place during the battle. The French used 50 tanks and at the end if the battle they only had 24 tanks. It was a very devastating battle that will never be forgotten.
