Christian Cowan (born April 25, 1994) is a British Womenswear designer. Cowan studied at Central Saint Martins for his foundation year specializing in Womenswear and transferred to London College of Fashion for his degree. Cowan is based in New York.
Career
[edit]At a presentation during university, Cowan's work was noticed by Lady Gaga's team. That month they requested the entire collection and she wore the Pink Glitter Tux which received recognition from the likes of British Vogue and Grazia. [1][2] Following the success of the 'Pink Glitter Suit', Cowan approached Acer with the creation of the 'Selfie Hat.' This was an international success, amassing a total of 1500 unique news stories. It has been seen on the Wendy Williams Show, Elle France, Buzzfeed and the Huffington Post. [3] [4]
Further to his success at University, he was commissioned by Miley Cyrus to make unique pieces for the 'Milky Milky Milk Tour' [5] Miley went on to wear the Pink Glitter Tux at a performance with U2 at the Stirring World AIDS Day Show. [6]
Cowan appeared in Cycle 23 of America's Next Top Model Episode 9 'The Comeback' with French Montana. After the success of his first show, CR Fashion Book used the Silver Sequin Dress as part of a fashion film with Paris Hilton [8]
In late February, Cowan's collaboration with Google was released. He created the Really Blue Jeans to go with Google's Really Blue Phone. They featured one single pocket which was the perfect size for the phone. [9]
Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus have shown continued support for the designer. Lady Gaga wore outfits in her music video for 'John Wayne', featured Cowans clothes on the videography playing behind her as she performed at Coachella, and on her tour merchandise. Miley Cyrus has worn custom outfits on promotional work and during filming for NBC's The Voice.
Christian Cowan has had two covers featuring his work in Paper Magazine. The first of which was during their Pride Awareness [10] where Beth Ditto wore an oversized pink bow dress. The second was a 12 page spread with Alek Wek including pieces from his hugely anticipated next collection. [11]
