Euan Bennet is a Scottish actor of both stage and screen.
Early life and career
[edit]Bennet was born in Livingstone in West Lothian and was educated at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where he studied musical theatre acting. It was during his time here that he was approached by Johnny Herbin to take on the leading role of Tom in the short film Electric Faces. Although Bennet was only at the start of his acting training, in February 2014 he accepted Herbin's offer took on the role and starred opposite Scottish actor John Gaffney.[1] The film was warmly received by audiences around the world with Bennet receiving widespread acclaim for his performance. Writing for Influx Magazine, Nav Qateel wrote:
"Bennet is asked to carry a good bit of the film on his shoulders, and demonstrates that he's easily up to the task. Het is a natural in front of a camera, and pulls off a sort of roguish appeal that plays well to his character."[2]
Electric Faces went on to receive a Best Writer nomination at the 2016 British Academy Scotland New Talent Awards.[3] During his time at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Bennet took part in a variety of musicals including Return to the Forbidden Planet, Cabaret and Merrily We Roll Along.[4][5] Outside of the Conservatoire, Bennet was taking on stage projects including When The War Came Home which tells the story of returning soldiers from the first world war to Scotland with the cast playing a variety of roles each. Speaking about Bennet's performance, Paul Cockburn of Broadway Baby wrote:
"Euan Bennet displays a remarkable physical and vocal versatility, ranging from the none-too-bright newspaper seller Norrie to the war poet Wilfred Owen."[6]
In 2015, Bennet appeared in two further short films as Des in Standing By and as Broadfoot in the dark comedy Broadfoot's Magical Adventure where he was reunited with Chris Quick who had produced Electric Faces.[7] The cast and crew of the film went on to receive an honourable mention at the 2016 Los Angeles Film Awards.[8] In the summer of 2016 Bennet graduated from the Conservatoire and began a nationwide tour of The Broons in which he played Horace.[9] He is due to take part in his first feature film role as Jake in Anna And The Apocalypse directed by John McPhail.
