Plague:

Compared to the fire of 1990, there are only few facts or information about the plague itself. I plan to add more information about the plague itself. Also, while reading the wiki for the first time, it was hard to find information about the plague because it was under the Honolulu Great Fire section, I would make a new section (heading) about the plague. In this new section, I want to mention about the Board of Health, because it played a huge role in the decisions about how to deal with the plague. This source gives good information about the BOH. It is very specific about the doctors that were in play, I hope to do more research on this, and make sure the information is reliable.

-Board of Health (BOH) was created on 12/13/1850 by King Kamehameha III
-It was the first board of health in America
-Almost immediately after the BOH was created, an epidemic of smallpox occurred in 1851 in Hawaii
-Cholera epidemic broke out in 1894
-December 12, 1899, the first case of bubonic plague death was announced to the public by the BOH in Honolulu.
-. Yon Chong, Chinese bookkeeper employed by Wing Wo Tai in the old Chinatown section of Honolulu, became ill on December 9,1899.
-The attending physician, Dr. S. Ching, suspected plague because of the buboes formed during the latter stages of the infection.
-The spread of bubonic plague to the neighbor islands from Honolulu was quite rapid following the unfortunate lifting of the quarantine on December 19,1899 of Honolulu Harbor
-The island of Maui recorded its first human case of plague on January 30,1900 in the port town of Kahului.
-The BOH(possibly because of economic pressure) lifted the quarantine of Chinatown and Honolulu Harbor on December 19,1899, dramatic error in judgment as was later evidenced
-On December 24, 1899, only five days following the lifted quarantine, the plague epidemic in Honolulu erupted in full force with an additional cases occur ring to the end of the year.

King Kamehameha III created the Board of Health (BOH) on December 13, 1860 to protect the people of Hawaii against diseases, small pox, cholera, and others. It became the first board of health in the United States. Yon Chong, Chinese bookkeeper employed by Wing Wo Tai in the old Chinatown section of Honolulu, became ill on December 9,1899. The attending physician, Dr. S. Ching, suspected plague because of the buboes formed during the latter stages of the infection. He therefore asked for jointly conducted diagnosis by Drs. W. Hoffman, G.H. Herbert, F.R. Day, and Carmichael who confirmed his suspicions and reported their findings to the President of the BOH on December 11, 1899. BOH President Cooper made the public announcement on December 12,1899 of the diagnosis. He immediately placed strict military quarantine of the Chinatown area and closed the port of Honolulu to incoming and outgoing vessels. On December 12, 1899, the first case of the Bubonic Plague death was announced to the public by the BOH in Honolulu.

• In the his life and work section, it mostly talks about his personal life (property he owned, people he met, where he held his exhibition). I would like to add more about his work in this section. Maybe include his techniques/style, and discuss some of his well-known artworks.
• Maybe expand and add more information about his life

  • World Health Organization is bolded and linked to its own wiki page
  • It was copied and paste but it was put in quotes and cited properly

• The article does mention how WHO's definition of health was a subject of controversy, and explains why
  • I don't know if this was relevant to the article about health. I thought it would have been more appropriate to talk about it on the WHO wiki page
