Ventmob
[edit]Ventmob is an online gaming community mostly based around the games ran from the Source game engine (Halflife, Counter-Strike, Garrys Mod etc) and more largely based on the Role-play game type's within this engine. Established in late 2008, the community saw spiralling popularity in its early days due to its flexibility and laid back admin team and the personality's of the players that followed them.
Early Days
[edit]Ventmob obtained its name from the founding administrators - Clown, KiZai, Drewley, Wyvern, Chaz and occasional player Dank - when they co-operated with each other on various other role-play servers on Garry's Mod. Due to the strictness of the role-play rule set most communities based themselves upon, the servers were influenced by impatient and often uncaring administrators. It was because of this fact Ventmob was created. The founder's set up a server - running an obtained copy of the Cider Role-play script (written by Kuromeku[1]) - and quickly had a forum along with a Ventrilo for the players to communicate with each other. The community of Ventmob officially came into being on the 27th November 2008. The server was originally ran on the map rp_tb_city45_v01 [2](Creation of this version of the map goes to Taco N' Banana community[2]) and saw a huge increase in popularity in a relatively short space of time - often credited to the credited laidback but caring administration team and the highly friendly community which they had rallied around them. By the Christmas of that year they had a donation system in place to help with the running cost of the servers - which also allowed players to receive in game items [3] and had enough of a player base to justify running a large Christmas event. The event included giving away of items in a hunt (ran by the admins) and was on the map rp_christmastown[4].
Moving Up
[edit]The community continued to rise in popularity from there and in early 2009 a LUA coder named Lexi joined the admin team. He revamped the Cider script and morphed it into his own role-play script called Applejack (a pun on Cider). From the hard work of the players, Lexi and the admin team the Ventmob role-play server quickly became one of the most popular on Garry's Mod. the server ranked as high at 17th by as early as the 36th December 2008 and within days had moved to rank 14. [5]. Presently (26/11/2009) the server is ranked 5th in the world on gametracker [6].
Present Day
[edit]In the summer of 2009 Ventmob moved on from the more conventional role-play game mode and made live a second roleplay server based on the new "Experiment" script (also written by Kuromeku). The server runs on the map rp_c18_v1[3] and the script is based around urban survival of the fittest and the rules allowed the server to be largely player policed. Due to the freedom's the rules give to players, the server became popular in a short time and presently sits at rank 16 on gametracker [7].
Other Servers
[edit]Along with the Garry's Mod role-playing servers Ventmob also hosts multiple servers for other games hosted by Steam. Due to ever changing popularity in games these servers range in games, depending on the more popular games of the day. Servers to be seen hosted by them are for Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, Team Fortress 2, The Ship and Left for Dead 2.

[edit]In the year 2011 Ventmob lost much of it's playerbase and Ventmob's long time coder Lexi left the community. Ventmob began suffering massive DDoS attacks which completely destroyed the community as the owner said it wasn't worth it anymore as they weren't pulling in as many donations as they used to. As of now Ventmob is completely dead but many of the players and admins formed a new Community Revolt Gaming.
