The First High School of Changsha is a secondary school (6th through 12th grades) located in Changsha, Hunan Province, China. Established in 1012, the First High School of Changsha, Hunan has been the earliest state-owned middle school in the province. It is one of the nation's first-tier key school and the admission process is extremely competitive. The School is also often called No.1 Middle School in English. The school is known for its high qualified teachers, excellence in academics, as well as extra curricular activities including football, basketball, etc. The school take "Fair-mindedness, Bravery, Diligence, and Plainness" as its standard to urge all teachers and student to reinforce their self-cultivation of morality and learning. There are many outstanding talents graduate from the First High School of Changsha, including Mao Zedong, Zhu Rongji, Zhou Gucheng, Zhou Libo, Yang Xiaokai, Tan Dun, and 17 members of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering.
