Lwini Foundation
[edit]The Lwini Foundation is an aid organisation in Angola, founded by the first lady of Angola Dr Ana Paula Dos Santos, wife of President José Eduardo dos Santos, that caters to civilian victims of land mines and other disabilities. [1] Since it was set up on 30th June 1998. It has delivered a lot of relief to people of various physical capabilities.
The name was changed from Lwini Fund to Lwini Foundation in June 2010 [2]
Their objectives include; [3]
- The promotion of advocacy and awareness actions for the disabled victims, their families and families of others impacted during and after conflicts.
- Development and provision of medical pathways for referrals and adequate health care services including psychological assistance.
- Establishment of employment access through livelihood support and capacity building.
- Government engagement on policies and plans put in place to accommodate and empower mine victims.
- Joint sensitization and awareness on the prevention of land mines.
- Livelihood sensitization through group discussions on importance of agriculture and economic livelihood emphasizing on effective sustenance.
- Developing initiatives that would provide rural community loans for women and widows, sustainable livelihood etc.
- Partnership with various organisations to tackle various sectors such as; food, shelter, healthcare, livelihood, etc.

THE LWINI FOUNDATION'S SYMBOLS
Lwini means a female and a princess in Luvale language (east of Angola), who gives the wave of chanas to the wind, while reflecting the various daytime sunshades. [5]
The Lwini logo represents protection. A woman protecting her child against existing mines in Chanas, the community adults protecting the young ones in the community, and the community protecting its members.[6]
FOUNDER OF LWINI FOUNDATION
Ana Paula Kitts Lemos Dos Santos was born into a family of five in Luanda on 17 October 1963, where she acquired her primary education in the capital's school. Her attraction to the endless possibilities of the world lead her to becoming a fight attendant for over a period of 10 years. [7] Her career as a fashion model was yet another opportunity which 1st lady Dos Santos added to her repertoire to compliment her degree in History and Geography. Never one to rest on her laurels, the mother of 3 went further to acquire a Law Degree at the Law from Agostinho Neto University and is a member of the International Steering Committee [8]
On the 17th of May 1991 Ana Paula Kitts Lemos Dos Santos married the president of the republic of Angola, Jose Eduardo dos Santos that brought forth three children Eduane Danilo (born 29/09/1991), Joseana (born 5/4 / 1995) and Eduardo Breno (born 02/10/1998).
Some of Lwini Foundation's activities in recent years;
- Delivering wheelchairs to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities [9]
- Commissioning a support centre for visually impaired students Law Faculty of Agostinho Neto University in Luanda [10]
- The presentation of Palanca Parade project, at the Gala of Lwini Foundation [11]
