The Last First Comic is a documentary film about Irv Benson, the last living first comic in the Burlesque world. The film, written and made by John C. Brown and Bart Williams chronicles the development of the stand-up comic from the early days of vaudeville and burlesque to television. Irv Benson, now 98, rose through the ranks to become the first comic in burlesque shows. Irv continued his career and appeared for many years on the Milton Berle show and was a regular on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. The film features the last video appearance by Carson sidekick Ed McMahon.
The film has won the Best Documentary prize at the 2011 Backlot Film Festival in Santa Monica, the Audience Award as Best Documentary at the 2011 Friars Club Comedy Film Festival and is a finalist in the California Independent Film Festival.
