The Liverpool East Toxteth by-election, 1931 was a parliamentary by-election held in England on 5 February 1931 for the House of Commons constituency of Liverpool East Toxteth.

Vacancy

The vacancy was caused when Alfred Mond, 1st Baron Melchett died on 27 December 1930. His son Henry was East Toxteth's Conservative Member of Parliament (MP), and Henry succeeded to the peerage in as the 2nd Baron Melchett. This gave him a seat in the House of Lords, and thereby disqualified him from sitting in the Commons.

Mond had held the seat since the by-election in March 1929.^[1] He had been re-elected at the general election in May 1929.^[1]
