Ovazemba people in the north-westen part of Namibia has a unique and special culture that differentiate them from other tribes. ovazemba people are originally fromAngola. They have a unique dressing code. However, their right and culture is not yet fully recognized by the Namibian government. They are dinied to have their own traditional chief before the indipendance. After the indipendence, ovazemba requested for own chief to the ministry of local government so that they can have their own chief. The ministry did not accept their request. As a result they are ruled by another tribe, Aakolonkadhi. Their basic human rights are totally violated and this made them to remain marginalized. Last year (2011), a group of seven Zemba tribe and two translators went to Netherland for curtural performance. After the performance, they would then expected to come back to Namibia, however they were thrown out of the plane due to the bad smelling of their cultural lotion they applied, encountered by some passangers. All these happens showed that some strong actions needs to be taken to improve and meet basic human rights of ovazemba people, for them to be able to enjoy freedom and liberty like all other tribes does.
The most astonishing thing is that most zemba speaking people, especially Ruacana residents, don't have access to electricity while the electricity is generated at Ruacana-Hydro power station , just 10km away from the community. Besides, they also don't have access to clean water; however the Kunene riveris not really far from the community. They are still using wells as their sources of water. Most of ovazemba are illitate and only few of them are able to read and write. student number:212107879
