Analysis of Article

[edit]

After reading my Wikipedia article, I found a few things that could have been very useful in it and that was lacking heavily. It needs to address the job outlook and employment of this specific career so those who would want to enter the criminal justice field can see the demand of jobs and how much the career actually pays. It also needs to state the education needed to become a special agent so people will know what knowledge and education they may need to work with this division. They also could have explained the executive reorganization act.

Revised paragraph from article

[edit]

Original

[edit]

The agency is divided into several parts:

  • Division of Forensic Sciences (DOFS) - Established in 1952 and furnishes scientific support to the Criminal Justice System of Georgia.
  • Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) - Established in 1973 providing round-the-clock access to needed information.
  • Investigative Division - Headed by the Deputy Director for Investigations with 400 employees, working in Regional Offices, Regional Drug Enforcement Offices and other work units that provide specialized services in criminal investigations. Special agents from the Investigative Division respond to requests for assistance from local law enforcement officials to investigate major crimes such as: homicide, rape, child abuse, armed robbery, fraud and other felonies. Drug investigations can be initiated without request.
  • Medical Examiner's Office - Provides forensic pathology services to 153 of 159 Georgia counties in deaths which qualify as coroner cases under the Georgia Death Investigation Act. The Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Georgia oversees the GBI's medical examiner (M.E.) program and also establishes policies and guidelines for all Georgia coroners and local medical examiners.
  • Crisis Intervention Team - Assists with people with mental illness and other brain disorders
  • In 1972 then Governor of Georgia Jimmy Carter proposed extensive changes in the structure of the executive branch of state government that led to the introduction of the Executive Reorganization Act. As a result of passage of this Act and later amendments, on February 28, 1974, the GBI was made an independent agency separate from the Georgia Department of Public Safety.

Revised

[edit]

Your revised paragraph goes here.

To become a special agent you must have a bachelor's degree and be 21 years old and be a United States citizen. Employees must be able to pass a vision test with a 20/40 to 20/20. The investigative division employees must pass a special agent exam and must be certified by P.O.S.T. They also must complete a 16 week training program at the Georgia Public Safety Training Facility Center in Forsyth, Georgia. Special agents salary differs according to which department you work in. Mostly all special agents start out making around $3,000 and increases due to their performance.

The executive reorganization act was to re-establish the executive branch. This act came along became people felt like the GBI department was overstepping their boundaries because every case that was opened, they felt as if they had to a part of it. The executive branch deals specifically straight with government. Jimmy Carter wants to make government stronger and efficient. He plans to make changes so that he can make changes wherever he see fits.
