Najibullah Alikhil is a distinguished Afghan career diplomat with over 30 years of experience in Afghanistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic missions. He has held prominent roles, including serving as Afghanistan's Ambassador to multiple countries and representing the nation in numerous international forums and negotiations.

Early Life and Education: Alikhil earned his Master's degree in International Relations from the Moscow State University of International Relations (MGIMO) from 1982 to 1987, a prestigious institution known for training diplomats and international experts.

Career: Alikhil began his diplomatic career in 1970 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, where he held various senior roles. From 1991 to 1996, he served as the Deputy Director General of the First Political Department, responsible for Southeast and South Asia. He later served as the First Secretary for Political Affairs at the Embassy/Permanent Mission of Afghanistan in Vienna, where he was also Afghanistan's delegate to key international organizations such as the OSCE, UNODC, IAEA, and CTBTO from 2004 to 2008.

He was appointed Director General of the Second Political Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2008 to 2012, overseeing affairs related to the Middle East, Africa, Iran, and Turkey. In 2012, Alikhil was named Afghanistan's Ambassador to Hungary, with concurrent non-resident accreditation to Croatia, Romania, and Bosnia-Herzegovina, a position he held until 2015.

From 2016 to 2019, he served as the Director General for International Security Cooperation, working on critical issues such as NATO relations, counterterrorism, counter-narcotics, and UN sanctions. His responsibilities also included Afghanistan's engagement with the UN Security Council on the disarmament of international security threats.

Ambassador Alikhil’s distinguished career culminated with his appointment as Afghanistan's Ambassador to Turkmenistan (2019-2020) and Pakistan (2020-2021), where he played a pivotal role in advancing Afghanistan’s diplomatic priorities in key regional contexts.

Publications: The Memoirs of Ambassador: The Truths of Relations with Pakistan, offers an in-depth analysis of Afghanistan's relations with its neighbors and the broader region. The book was published in 2024, reflecting his insights into Afghanistan’s foreign policy and his personal experiences as a diplomat.

Legacy: With a career spanning three decades, Najibullah Alikhil is regarded as one of Afghanistan's most seasoned diplomats, having represented the country in various multilateral and bilateral platforms.
