History
[edit]Founding of Nastymix
[edit]Locke founded the label in 1985, and chose the name "Nastymix Records," which combined the word "Nasty" from Nasty Nes Rodriguez, who was a local radio DJ and friend, with the word "Mix" from Sir Mix-A-Lot.[1]
Locke founded Nastymix in order to release an untitled vinyl E.P. record by Seattle rap artist Sir Mix-A-Lot. The E.P. was Nastymix Records' first release (IGU6969) and it was released on month day 1985. The E.P. contained four tracks: "I just Love My Beat," "Square Dance Rap," "Let's G," and "Mix-A-Lot's Theme."
The founding documents for the label were prepared by Seattle lawyer Neil Sussman. Neither Sir Mix-A-Lot nor Nes Rodriguez appear in the documents. Only Locke's name appears.
Nastymix's first office was located at 3161 Elliott Avenue, #302, Seattle, WA 98121.
Early Years
[edit]In 1986 "Square Dance Rap" from the Sir Mix-A-Lot E.P. (IGU6969) became a chart hit.
In 1987, Locke moved the label to a new office at 87 Wall St., 2nd Floor, Seattle, WA 98121.
