Evaluation of the Gunnison River Article
[edit]- Name of article: Gunnison River
I have chosen this article because I would like to add more to the article about the selenium pollution and the overall water quality of the river. There is little information on this river and surrounding water basin even though the area of the basin covers more square mileage than the state of Connecticut. While the history of the river is mentioned, some of the articles it references do not exist and the references mentioned are not completely reliable sources.
Lead Evaluation
[edit]The lead provides an introductory sentence that describes the physical location and size of the river. The lead does not include a brief description of the following topics but includes them as a context menu. The lead does not include any information that is not currently in the article. The lead is short and concise without any ramblings or overly-detailed information.
The lead could use more information on the contents of the article and more topics discussed within the article.
Content Evaluation
[edit]The content provided in the article is relevant to the topic of the Gunnison River. The information within the article seems to be up to date and the last edits of the article were within the past year. There is limited information in the article but the information provided is without bias and in a neutral tone. The article does not appear to have any equity gaps.
While brief, the current content seems up to date and uses fairly reliable data. The information provided does not need to be edited but checking the information would be beneficial. One thing to add to the article is more areas of content such as pollution and water quality.
Tone and Balance Evaluation
[edit]The article is written in a neutral tone stating facts rather than implementing any bias or speculations. The information provided mostly states facts on the geological location and the history of the rivers discovery. This article does not contain any controversial viewpoints or take a side with any groups.
The article has a neutral tone and does not contain any information that provide arguments for or against.
Sources and References Evaluation
[edit]Most of the facts in the article are backed by a reliable source, although some do not have sources addressing the topics detailed in the article. There are limited sources for the information given and would need to have more sources listed. The oldest source is from 1921 and the newest is from 2015. The authors of the sources seem to be highly diversified and come from all different people and organizations. Almost half of the sources listed cannot be reached.
There are limited numbers of sources and almost half of them do not open to the correct page. These sources are most likely old and need to be replaced with concurrent ones. Additional sources are needed for information pertaining the history and other facts about the river.
Organization Evaluation
[edit]The article is easy to follow and read and is presented in a well-organized manner. There do not appear to be any grammatical or spelling errors. The major points are extremely clear and concise.
The flow of the article makes sense and does not need to be changed.
Images and Media Evaluation
[edit]The article provided two images of the geological location and how the river looks in person. These images were provided with a detailed description of what the picture was showing and are given in a way that is visually appealing.
While there are pictures provided, more pictures will be needed as more information is given on the subject of the Gunnison River.
Talk Page Evaluation
[edit]There are not any lengthy conversations happening behind the scenes of this article, only a comment from 2006 that addressed highlighting being hard to see by those who are colorblind. This issue seems to be fixed because there are no other comments related. This article has been rated as Low-Importance and is part of the WikiProjects of Rivers, United States/Colorado, and Fisheries and Fishing. This topic is not greatly discussed and seems to be low on the level of importance, along with little information on the pollution of the river.
Overall impressions
[edit]This article seems very clear and concise with the information provided. The article is in the starting phase and needs more information. Some strengths of the article are the amount provided about the history of the river and the description of the river is filled with sources and detailed information. Some things that can be improved are the amount of sources, more information about pollution and fisheries, and updated links for existing sources. I would say this article is underdeveloped because of the length of the article considering the scale of the Gunnison River and those that live within its watershed.
