Background
[edit]By Padrons Psyche and out of A Fancy Miracle, Magnum has an illustrious background. His grandsires *Padron and *Sasaki are both prominent sires, and his damlines are no less exalted. He is owned by Haras Mayed [1] stud near Buenos Aires Argentina, and owned by Fernando and Joaquin Santibanes.
Scandal
[edit]David Boggs, Magnum's longtime handler, was accused of participating in unnecessary cosmetic surgery on Magnum, esp. a 'throat-latch lift'. Boggs was suspended, and although many wanted Magnum excluded from the show ring, he returned and did well in all his classes in 2009. Shortly after this, Magnum showed up with a strange mark on his shoulder that appeared directly before the class. Boggs claimed it was from where the stallion ran into the entry gate, but the mark itself was horizontal, while the bars on the gates are vertical. Many were told it was a 'whip mark' put there by Boggs seconds before running into the ring, but as there was no video outside of the arena, it was hard to prove. The class was judged, and then brought to a halt for over 10 minutes while the judges deliberated on whether it was a whip mark and therefore eligible for disqualification, or to ignore it and name Magnum champion. The one judge that called it as a whip mark was overruled and Magnum won the title. This caused great controversy among Arabian horse fans, and cost the opposing judge his job.
Legacy
[edit]Magnum is a progenitor of consistency in both his sons and his daughters. Offspring by Magnum are, like him, exceptional show horses and parents. Some of his award-winning progeny include *Magnum Chall, Absolut Magnum, Ames Charisma, Imagine, Estancia LL, Maggdalina, Maggdaline, JJ Apharina, and LD Pistal.
