The Lab snus, is a brand of snus made by Swedish Match. The series of snus, consists of slim(long and narrow) pouches of snus, that are made with a formula that prevents dripping.
In 2009, The Lab was officially released, after about a years development in the Swedish Match lab. There they had gathered a team of researchers, with the goal of combining the latest research, years of experience and the demand of snus consumers, to create a new snus series. During the development,
the researchers used code names for the different styles of snus like 01, 05, 06, 07,12 and 13. These code names where used during release, and are still used today.
In August 2013, Swedish Match released The Lab Fresh, a new concept with a mild tobacco taste and a cooling function.[1]
Types
[edit]- 02 contains a high level of nicotine. It's robust and well rounded and has a strong taste of tobacco.
- 05 is a white portion snus, which means it has a dry surface that hinders dripping. The taste contains hints of green herbs, oak and cedar, and a little nuttiness and flowers.
- 06 is an extra strong snus. It has a spicy taste with hints of herbs, oak and cedar, and a little nuttiness and flowers.
- 07 has a dry surface like 05. As 06, this is also an extra strong snus.
- 12 is a medium snus. It tastes of peppermint, with hints of oak, leather and vanilla.
- 13 tastes of spicy tobacoo with distinct notes of tropical fruits and berries.
- Fresh is a small series with a mild taste of tobacco that contains a cooling function. The pouches are slim, but is even slimmer and softer. Fresh comes in three tastes, lemon, mint and cool mint.
Health consequences
[edit]A study of almost 10,000 Swedish men published in the International Journal of Cancer in 2008 found a statistically significant increase in the incidence of the combined category of oral and pharyngeal cancer among daily users of snus.[2] Other studies and opinion pieces in renowned journals, such as the British Medical Journal and The Lancet, do not confirm any correlation between snus usage and oral cancer, but they suggest a probable increased risk of pancreatic cancer as a result of snus use.[3][4]
