I use Wikipedia frequently, and I absolutely abhor running across speling [sic] mistakes, grammar mistakes, and vandalism, which I will instantly remove on sight (I also occasionally patrol recent changes). Here are a few of my personal opinions on topics that frequently appear within Wikipedia, to bring a slightly more official tone to this userpage and give you a deeper understanding of my editing habits. Note that these opinions are merely opinions, and are no more valid than any disagreeing opinions. After all, it is our duty to have thorough and civil discussions on the internet, as long as they stay out of the mainspace!
Also, I am a new editor in the grand scheme of things, so these messages are primarily directed at very new users who may be checking my page after I send them a talk page message, just in case they are questioning what happened.
If you're here because you noticed I altered or reverted your edit, chances are you edited a page within the past 1-4 days or so, and you're a new user without a userpage. This is my default filter in the Recent Changes log, so it's not too surprising.
Your edit may have already been flagged as vandalism by Wikipedia's bots. They're usually quite accurate when it comes to finding unconstructive edits.
Unconstructive edits are not the same as vandalism: vandalism is what happens when unconstructive edits are done with the intent to misinform or alter the truth and/or reliability of Wikipedia, regardless of the reason. Edits that might violate Wikipedia's policies, but are done in good faith, do not constitute vandalism.
Hopefully, I added some sort of message on your talk page explaining the reason for the change or revert. Please consider this message and use it as advice for future actions on Wikipedia.
Typically, the messages I use are Wikipedia's template messages for this sort of thing, to allow for standardization and to save time. Unfortunately, this means that a message I send might not perfectly match the issue at hand. However, it should be close, and if I feel like the situation is very specific, you'll get a personalized message.
If I revert or change your edit(s) without sending you a message, you did nothing wrong. I either made a mistake or was simply adjusting something small (grammar, formatting, citations, etc.). Don't worry.
I am generally, but not solely, an inclusionist rather than a deletionist. This means that I believe in preserving and retaining accurate information, particularly when it is cited.
If sourced, unbiased, encyclopedic material does not fit well into an article, the article should be adjusted to accommodate for it—not vice versa.
If information is added that does not have a source, editors should work to find a source (to either support or contradict the edit), or otherwise add a [citation needed] tag.
Wikipedia is not censored. Negative information about a company or person should remain, as long as it is not defamatory or a BLP violation. Politically or culturally sensitive subjects should remain as objective as possible on this website, in a time when Cyber-Balkanization and censorship are prevalent elsewhere. Please respect that, and respect the consensus of others who use this site.
