Basic Human Being

[edit]

Basichumanbeing is a record producer from Minneapolis, MN. James Alexander Cooper, aka Basic, was born September 5th, 1984 in San Diego, CA.

Musical Background

[edit]

Basic is an aspiring DJ, recording artist, and songwriter. Heavily influenced by the flourishing gangster rap in the mid to late 90's, especially and thanks to Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, Basic took to writing rap songs as well as poetry. A highly lyrical individual, Basic never did understand why the mass public praised many rappers for their radio hits. He stuck to listening to the deeper and more hardcore songs. Life was mostly rap music for Basic until his discovery of dance music early on into the new millenium. Basic would say his biggest influence is "Just Be" by DJ Tiesto and Kirsty Hawkshaw. This new world of ideology was untapped, and its uplifting style would play heavily on him.

Mental Illness

[edit]

At the age of 17, acute paranoid schizophrenia manifested in Basic's brain. Basic suffered from severe auditory and visual hallucinations as well as complex delusions for about four years until he was properly diagnosed in 2005.

Education

[edit]

Basic graduated from Northwest High School in Germantown, Maryland where he was raised. After being accepted to North Carolina State University, he moved with his parents to Greensboro, North Carolina in 2002 and began school that fall. Due to the schizophrenia, he was unable to complete his college education and dropped out in late 2003. With the schizophrenia still being unknown, Basic tried his hand at music and attended Full Sail in Orlando, Florida for 3 months. The paranoia Basic suffered caused him severe stress and so pulled out from yet another school. After his diagnosis and medication, Basic attended IPR, the Institute of Production and Recording, in Minneapolis. Basic recently graduated from IPR with an Associate's of Applied Sciences in Audio Production. He is now the owner of Free Human Recordings, which is a dance music record label based in Minneapolis.
